My comments in @bostonglobe.com on how dismantling of ED affects colleges: “When you haphazardly cut whole teams, and people from other teams quit or are forced to retire, there are going to be problems with everything.” @ditikohli.bsky.social www.bostonglobe.com/2025/11/04/b...
Massive cuts at the Department of Education are causing big problems at Massachusetts colleges - The Boston Globe
Local universities rely on the agency in order to disburse financial aid disbursement, create new programs, or merge with other institutions. Now, they're scrambling.

Before I was illegally fired from FSA, some of my most challenging student loan borrower complaints involved problems with TPD. It’s critical that ED is staffed sufficiently to run this program and oversee contractors. New from me for TICAS. #highered #studentdebt
The Total & Permanent Disability (TPD) program has long helped lift the burden of student debt for individuals with severe disabilities. But changes at the Dept of Ed pose a threat to this program. Our latest brief & blog explain what’s at stake: buff.ly/tSvuPOw

The group Save U.S. Diplomacy held a rally at the #StateDepartment today to decry Secretary Rubio's planned firings of thousands of experts. "They're ceding strategic power and security interests to China, Russia & Iran while making our government operate more like theirs" said one State employee.

The headline kind of says it all, but you should read the whole piece thehill.com/opinion/educ...
The Department of Education is paying us not to work. We would rather be working.
Since mid-March, the Trump administration has blocked me and hundreds of others from doing any work while we continue to receive full pay and benefits.

My column today for The Hill clarifies that fired Education Department workers are not complicit in the government’s wasteful spending. We want to get back to work for America’s schools, students, and teachers. #academicsky #HigherEd thehill.com/opinion/educ...

Glad to see this explainer and the policy change. I deal with colleges that withhold transcripts over bills, and they are NOT nice about it.
The new regs from Department of Ed
include a really strong provision limiting transcript withholding. The changes will make it easier for millions of students to prove they they have the credits they have completed. More on why this is such a big deal in the blog

Department of Education Limits Colleges' Ability to Hold Transcripts.
New rules will prevent colleges and universities from withholding transcripts from students for periods of enrollment they received federal financial aid for and paid their bill in full.
