Set us free, heavenly Father, from every bond of prejudice and fear; that, honoring the steadfast courage of your servant Absalom Jones, we may show forth in our lives the reconciling love and true freedom of the children of God, which you have given us in your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; Amen. 🕯️

I have borne your terrors with a troubled mind.
They surround me all day long like a flood;
they encompass me on every side.
My friend and my neighbor you have put away from me,
and darkness is my only companion.

Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Extend hospitality to strangers. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God

When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." And once again he bent down and wrote on the ground. When they heard it, they went away, one by one, beginning with the elders

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured.

Pursue peace with everyone, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble

“This poem is a long, insistent, concrete advocacy address to a community in deep conflict. The poet urges a strong vision of the future of the community that is ethically demanding, that requires policies and actions of a neighborly kind"

Jesus did not pursue
fame, fortune, or
social media sensation.

He didn’t go to the capitol
to show the world
all he could do.

He almost didn’t go at all.
Secretly, he slipped in—
one wanted if identified.

Many of his disciples turned back and no longer went about with him. So Jesus asked the twelve, "Do you also wish to go away?" Simon Peter answered, "Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."

You were fed, ate your fill for free,
but chase after that full feeling,
seeking out Jesus,
asking, "What must we do
to satisfy this endless hunger that
consumes and controls our lives?"

Jesus says, "I AM the bread of LIFE
so come, eat, feast for eternity."

“Do not let me look on the death of the child.” And as she sat opposite him, she lifted up her voice and wept. And God heard the voice of the boy; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, “What troubles you, Hagar?

When the parents brought in the child Jesus, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying, “Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light”

"Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated; so also the fish, as much as they wanted. When they were satisfied, he told his disciples, “Gather up the fragments left over, so that nothing may be lost.”

The “ICE out of churches” bit here would be big — there are already at least four separate lawsuits on that issue filed by religious plaintiffs that include dozens of denominations, religious organizations, and individual houses of worship. religionnews.com/2025/07/28/f...

We are awakening to this new
time in a country we love,
each figuring out what to do.
Rest, dear ones. Reach for awe
and compassion in your soul.

God is greater than this moment.
Creativity is necessary
for the solutions we seek.
Make time to become refreshed.
Perseverance is a long road.

I wrote this poem at Holy Cross Monastery on Friday, when hundreds of clergy joined the anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis, before Alex Pretti was killed. Our national crisis is escalating quickly. I’m sharing this today, when much of the country is home following the winter storm. #perseverance

I was so furiously enraged at them, I pursued them even to foreign cities. "With this in mind, I was traveling to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests, when at midday along the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining around me and my companions. 1/2

I have written a collect, for the feast of the Conversion of St Paul, in this year of Our Lord 2026. (It's a bit wordy, but it felt apt):

Almighty God,
You called St Paul to repentance for his threats and violence
And to bear witness to the power of your love revealed in weakness.
