Macabre New York City walking tours led by artists and writers. Slightly unhinged posts by founder Andrea Janes here, normal business-y stuff here:

Did women ruin the workplace? No! Did I personally ruin my own weekend writing about the cynical fuckery that led to the New York Times asking that question? I sure did!

Huge thanks to @moiradonegan.bsky.social for lending her expertise and insight to my ranting
Women didn’t ruin the workplace. Capitalism did
When your debate centers on whether women should exist in public, you’ve already lost.

We working class ghosts (and guides) are feeling hopeful about NYC today. High fives to our fellow gig workers, underpaid adjuncts, underemployed historians, and artists-working-three-jobs this morning.

"I detest the expression “horror film.” I make films on the supernatural and I make them because I believe it." – Jacques Tourneur
I wrote about Jacques Tourneur's profoundly unsettling and uncertain Night of the Demon (1957), over at my Old New substack.

A Lifelong Upper West Sider says: "I was excited by the prospect of an UWS ghost tour, but also apprehensive that it might just be a rehash of history and stories that I already know. I was pleasantly surprised to also learn many new spooky things about my neighborhood." This is HUGE praise.

A few years ago a neighbor left Boo Buckets on everyone's doormat with the cutesy "You've been BOOed!" note and the response, unanimously, was "WTF is this shit?" So glad we live in NYC, where we trick or treat in bodegas like normal people.

On a totally unrelated note, I spent my weekend leading Victorian cemetery tours. What a fun way to learn about unvaccinated children! You can count up all their tiny gravestones!
South Carolina schools recently sent home unvaccinated kids to stem a growing measles outbreak. It turned out 5 of them were infected and, if they'd been at school, could've unwittingly spread it to their classmates for days.

That kind of precaution is now illegal in Idaho.
