A question for my audience: What would you like to know about the art of worldbuilding?

Most of my clients hire me for developmental or line editing. Both of these services entail working with fine tuning the big picture elements and finding a story's voice.

October was about taking a break. I filled my creative well with mountain views, family, & friends. I was lucky that Rachel Lapidow (@editrix-rachel.bsky.social) had time in her schedule to meet up for a pot of tea & muffins. We had a delightful conversation about editing & shopped at a local store.

Happy Halloween/Samhain! Today marks the final day of the social media challenge. Our final prompt: What advice would you give to a new editor just starting out?

Do the marketing that brings you contentment if not happiness. If you like going to conferences and conventions, do it.

Day 30 of the Editors Tea Club Social Media Challenge: How do you celebrate finishing an editing project?

Most of the time my celebrations are small, a sweet treat or a night off. Occasionally when I have a big project I purchase one of my milestone treats (massage, TBR book, or a new tech tool).

Biggest catch-up post yet but I was on vacation in beautiful Vermont (all photos were taken by me).

Day 23: What is a small editorial win that you are proud of? I love it most when I can help the author tie up a loose end or tweak a sentence so it sings.

Another catch-up post for the Editors Tea Club October Challenge! Day 20: What does a nourishing editing day look for you? This has definitely changed in the last year. My day starts with having an excellent morning with my dog and child. (1/2)

Playing catch-up for the Editors Tea Club challenge!!

Day 17: What do I wish more people understood about editing? I wish aspiring writers knew that editing is a long process. One that starts with them unless they are enlisting the services of a book coach or joining a writer's critique group.

Day 16: What is your favorite part of the editing process? I love what I do, so I like a lot of the process I have created. The first dip into a new manuscript, the collaboration calls, that second pass where the story expands, and delivering a project that I am satisfied with.

We are a week and a half away from the Northwest Editor's Guild Red Pencil Trivia night! Nerd out with your fellow editors before the Red Pencil conference in November. This is a separate event that you need to sign up for with a recording for those who can't attend live (like me)!

Day 13: My favorite teas are Harney & Sons Paris, Friday Afternoon Tea: Moon Magic, and Ronnefeldt: Assam Bari Irish Breakfast. All of them delicious hot or cold (highly important since they get forgotten when I an enthralled with my work).

Day 12: What is my editing superpower? Story retention and worldbuilding. My ability to read a narrative & ask the questions that fill gaps or spark new ideas for my authors/creators. I help create the structure for new stories as well as fixing their WIP.

Day 11 of the Editor's Tea Club social media challenge!
How do I stay organized? I used to be a physical planner girl, then I went to digital...three digital calendars for family and work. So this year I went back to physical to combine all of the digital planning into one space.

Day 10: What tool or system saves my sanity? PerfectIt is my go-to consistency checker. I love that for longtime clients I can customize their word choices, and since I have a Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) subscription as well, it helps me validate CMOS rulings as well.

Double day for posting! Days 5 & 6 of the ETC's Challenge.

Day 5: My current setup is simple, I work on the large monitor and add/edit the style sheet on the laptop. Since I have the tendency to work elsewhere I need a setup that can be taken down (the monitor stays here). #editor #TTRPG

Day 4 of the ETC's challenge: What made you want to become an editor?

Stories.

I am a lifelong avid bibliophile and normally have at least 3 books between paper copies and ebooks on me at all times. Humans and our capacity for storytelling is why I do what I do.

Day 3 of the Editor's Tea Club challenge is explaining what kind of editing I do! I am a developmental, line, and copyeditor. Keep in mind the elements listed below are flexible based on the genre you are editing in. A quick explanation using an iceberg as a reference:

Onto Day 2! I am cheating and putting in two mugs but only because the kraken one is used for water since it holds 33 oz and my jack-o'-lantern mug is for tea.

Recovering from a whirlwind amazing #GenCon2025! I met a lot of amazing people and renewed some acquaintances from my last visit!

The best part about completing a class (not just Melissa Haskin's fantastic Recipe Editing 101) is the research dive after. So excited to showcase my new specialty and become an expert editor for recipes/cookbooks.
