JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH (2025) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ It’s a blockbuster popcorn movie I bet I would have liked more on a big screen. It’s peak creature feature stuff — especially that final boss mutant — but if you’re looking for more than just dino porn you’re not getting it here. But lucky for me I love dino porn!

This was a milestone year for me as it marked my 10th anniversary participating in the #31HorrorFilms31Days challenge. Like most years, it was a mixed bag of highs and lows, but we are definitely living through a horror renaissance right now and I’m here for it!!

🎃31HorrorFilms31Days Roundup🎃This was kind of a milestone year for me as it marked the tenth anniversary of participating in the #31HorrorFilms31Days challenge. Like most years, it was a mixed bag of highs and lows, but can we all agree we are living through a horror hot streak renaissance right now, with some great new voices emerging. While other genres are struggling at the box office because of high studio expectations and soaring production costs, horror is keeping it real, putting bums in seats, and raking it in. And I’m here for it!🔴 Most anticipated, biggest letdown award is a tie shared between VHS HALLOWEEN and HELL HOUSE LINEAGE. Damn, these both suuuucked.🔴 The biggest surprise genre mashup award goes to HEART EYES for convincingly pulling off a romcom slasher. A truly hilarious, fun romp.🔴 The most memorable onscreen dispatching award goes to THE PROWLER thanks to effects master Tom Savini. If you know, you know.🔴 The most messed up storyline bringing the gore award goes to a Tubi original directed by Danishka Esterhazy, MATCH.🔴 The funniest movie that made me LOL the most is a two-way tie for THE MONKEY and CLOWNS IN A CORNFIELD. 🔴 A very special good boy award (created just for him) goes to Indy the dog because he is such a GOOD BOY.🔴 Finally, here are my Top Picks from this year’s watches (not ranked). These are all bangers for different reasons.— A TALE OF TWO SISTERS— HORROR IN THE HIGH DESERT 3: FIREWATCH— BRING HER BACK— THE COFFEE TABLE— OUT COME THE WOLVES— ALIENS EXPANDED I hope you all had a great spooky season, until next year! 👻🎃

It wouldn’t be a proper Halloween without spending some of it with the @whmpodcast.bsky.social gang. Tonight it’s their Prowlermenatary, and someone better mention that shower running 😂🎃 #WHMSpooktacular #Spooktacular #HorrorSky

31) HELL HOUSE LLC: LINEAGE (2025) Yowzers. This was … not good. I don’t blame Cognetti wanting to drop the found footage aspect to try and mix it up a bit for the fifth movie. But the change up doesn’t pay off. At all. I’ll at least take my anticipation to see this as a win.

30) THE CONJURING: LAST RITES (2025)
She’s a 10, but her parents fight demons in their spare time.

This hasn’t always been my favourite franchise, but what has remained consistent throughout is my fangirling over the chemistry shared between Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. #31HorrorFilms31Days

29) GOOD BOY (2025)
HE IS SUCH A GOOD BOY! 😭
Indy and his precious expressive eyes pulled me into this movie’s emotional orbit. Anyone living with a dog or cat has seen them stare hard at nothing. It’s unnerving! My cat does this to me all the time. We are surrounded by ghosts. #31HorrorFilms31Days

28) M3GAN 2.0 (2025) She’s baaaaack. Hold on to your vaginas! I had way more fun than I thought I would. We’ve taken a giant shift into Mission:Impossible John Wick territory, with the runtime to match.M3GAN is sassier than ever, and she’s learned a few new tricks along the way.

27) WOLF MAN (2025) This just didn’t land for me as much as I hoped despite a great cast. Not a fan of the creature design, though I did appreciate the extra sensory stuff. I also find it frustrating when a movie is shot this dark, it starts to get visually monotonous and boring #31HorrorFilms31Days

26) A TALE OF TWO SISTERS (2003) It’s everything you want from a South Korean ghost story. Stunning visuals, pure dread, a dark mystery that keeps you off kilter. I spent most of the runtime not knowing what the hell was going on, and that state of confusion adds to the tension.

25) THE COFFEE TABLE (Spain 2022) In many ways this is pure Hitchcock—*we* know there’s a ticking bomb in the midst of this quaint domestic setting waiting to go off. And the wait is so very dreadful and excruciating. And then… the bomb goes off. And yeah, it’s bad. This is dark!

24) EXHIBIT A (2007) You know almost from the jump how this story is going to end — what you don’t know is just how bad it will be. Through the lens of his teen daughter’s home video camera, you’re watching an average dad lose control of his life and become unglued.

Me during the entire runtime of A Tale of Two Sisters. And freaked the hell out. Never get a Korean ghost mad at you.

23) THERE’S SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CHILDREN (2023) Goddamn kids! Get a cat people! What really got me to watch this is my Zach Gilford crush. The annoying little shitbag kids with all their homicidal tendencies are pretty textbook, with a cosmic twist. Meh. #31HorrorFilms31Days
October 25, 2025 at 11:27 PM
22) JEFFREY’S HELL (2024) The first half is all setup with our faux doc talking heads lulling us into a sleepy trance. The second half is the found footage of a solo cave exploration gone very wrong. It’s claustrophobic and creepy for a bit, then gets weird and cosmic. It’s ok.

21) TRAUMATIKA (2025) Some truly scary visuals in the first act, the camerawork creates palpable dread. Then it goes downhill from there. The final act *completely* changes tone to something almost slasher slapstick, like you nodded off and woke up with a different movie playing

20) REAPTOWN (2020) I’m a big fan of Marich’s Horror in the High Desert franchise so I thought I’d give this a try. I think it would’ve worked better as a short but it has good bones and Marich’s visual style is cooking, including those flashlight beams! Creepy setting and sound

19) ALIENS EXPANDED (2024)

Game over, man! Game over!

Is 4.5 hours too indulgent for a documentary about one movie? Nope! Give me one of those for every one of my favourite films. I teared up at the section dedicated to Bill Paxton. Sigourney Weaver you are a kickass goddess.

18) VICIOUS (2025) What’s in the box?! (sorry, I couldn’t resist). I’m a big fan of Bryan Bertino’s work, The Strangers and The Dark and the Wicked. This outing feels undercooked. I love the premise, but I never felt truly invested or scared at any time.

17) STRANGE HARVEST (2025) I should have loved this — a faux doc taking on all the beats of true crime, but ultimately it didn’t work for me. It’s drawing from so many sources — Dateline, Se7en, True Detective, Hannibal (tv), but never finds its own confidence or footing.

16) DANGEROUS ANIMALS (2025) Leave it to the Aussies to give us a serial killer that uses sharks as his weapon of choice. This is a solid thriller hyper-focused on our villain and our damsel in distress as they match wits in the rusty, sweaty interior of a rundown fishing vessel

15) HORROR IN THE HIGH DESERT 3: FIREWATCH (2024) I’m such a fan of this franchise and the mystery of whatever the hell is going on in the Nevada high desert. You could not ask for a more desolate, INFINITELY creepy setting of abandoned gold mines and collapsing structures.

14) MATCH (2025) Life is like a box of Tubi originals, you never know what you’re gonna get. And yikes! Way more graphic and gross and disturbing than I was ready for, yet also manages to be darkly comical and savage in its satire too. IF you can stomach it. I had fun? I think?
