Super Mario Galaxy was, is, and maybe always will be the greatest video game ever created.
Quote this with what you would have said your game of the year was at the end of 2010, if you had one, and what you would say your favourite game of 2010 is now, if it differs

Localisations and early access count, remasters and ports don't. Remakes depend

I think Metroid Dread for both then and now, but Guardians of the Galaxy (the worst mis-selling of an excellent game in years and years) and Hitman 3 make good cases for themselves.

Hades then, Yakuza: Like a Dragon now.

(I will count two-way ties for either answer)

Control then, Outer Wilds now.

Dead Cells then, either that or Tetris Effect now. Never quite clicked with the big hitters from this one (although Spider-Man is undoubtedly a very good One Of Those).

Mario Odyssey then, Hollow Knight now.

BOTW was second then, and is second now.

Undertale. Now, then, forever.
Not expecting people to go silly like I have, but was hoping some of you would use this as a prompt.

I'll make it less daunting. Quote this with what you would have said your game of the year was at the end of 2015, and what you would say your favourite game of 2015 is now, if it differs
Since I’m got time to kill, trying to go back and recall what I would say my favourite game of a given year was back then vs. what I’d say now

2024 then/now: Astro Bot by default, unless Shadow of the Erdtree counts

THE ABSOLUTE MADLADS, THEY ACTUALLY DID IT #DoctorWho

I'm certainly not claiming that the political allegory in this week's #DoctorWho is particularly well-worked or satisfying, but I've read enough reactions to conclude that more than a few people are falling into the old "depicting=endorsing" trap.

Yes indeed!
God, it's lovely how good #DoctorWho is at the moment.

More thoughts when the episode goes out tonight, but this season’s shaping up incredibly nicely. #doctorwho

I'm not as zealous as some are about the relentless quest for new blood on the #doctorwho front, but there's no denying that this is (mostly) a fresh and interesting new set of voices for the show that will benefit it in the long run. McTighe seems like he's being prepped for running the show too.

I always forget to do this (and, to be fair, already forgot this time around too), but not this year - here's a thread of films I saw for the first time this year!

If the next #DoctorWho animation is indeed the Savages, I want to get ahead of the conversation, and say definitively - yes, Ian Stuart Black was a genius, yes, every piece of subsequent Doctor Who owes it an enormous debt of gratitude, and yes, it is the 20th century's best piece of Doctor Who.

Genuinely baffled by #doctorwho fandom at large apparently deciding that the dreadful Sea Devil masks from Legend of the Sea Devils were, in fact, wonderful, and absolutely struck dumb that people actually thought that they'd re-use them for the spin-off.

My favourite story for each #DoctorWho

The Savages
The Mind Robber
Invasion of the Dinosaurs
City of Death
Kinda
Revelation of the Daleks
The Happiness Patrol
The Night of the Doctor
The Empty Child
Gridlock
The Day of the Doctor
World Enough and Time
Demons of the Punjab
The Giggle
Dot and Bubble

Ready for the Prom! #doctorwho
August 26, 2024 at 12:55 PM
Dot and Bubble
73 Yards
Boom
Rogue
Legend of Ruby Sunday/Empire of Death
Space Babies
Devil's Chord

The worst episode this year was a brave experiment that didn't land for me- the best ones radically expanded what the show could do and will stick with me for years. Not bad going! #DoctorWho

One episode of modern Doctor Who a day from here on out will get you to The End of Time Part Two on the day before the anniversary. Sounds eminently doable to me!
