How depressing would it be if the people of Iran finally manage to overthrow the Ayatollahs' decades long reign of terror, only to put the bloody Shah back in charge?

And one photo from today, in the aftermath of Storm Goretti, which she weathered fashionably in her trusty orange Cold Front Raincoat by Canada Pooch. These toots have not been sponsored by Canada Pooch, we just like the brand a lot.

Wednesday was moderately less wintry, suitable for this pink Ultimate Stretch Vest by Canada Pooch, and for borking furiously at her friends when they're more interested in the ball than her.

We're back at doggy day care after the holidays with a brand new wardrobe! Monday this week was freezing cold, so she wore the very cyberpunk and highly insulated Utility Parka by Canada Pooch.

Keyboard has finally made its way here from China. Keycaps, ordered at the same time from the Netherlands, have currently gotten as far as customs on the Dutch side, thanks so much Nigel, but I've got switches and have inserted them.

They don't work […]

Only one leader in Europe has been willing to condemn Donald Trump's actions.

For that he has been vilified and ostracised by the other European leaders.

History will have its verdict.
Why Spain’s prime minister has broken ranks in Europe – and dared to confront Trump
Outrage at the US, close ties with Venezuela and mounting domestic challenges have prompted Pedro Sánchez to take a stand, says the Spanish journalist Maria Ramirez

And speaking of which, it's funny how everyone talks about the Butlerian Jihad as if it isn't just another Torment Nexus.

The Butlerian Jihad led to a world where people were regularly shooting up on debilitating smart drugs to do maths for their feudal overlords because their ancestors decided […]

I'm watching people in my feed screaming at each other over Firefox's "AI kill switch" this morning with some trepidation.

As far as I'm concerned, Firefox already has an AI kill switch. It's called `browser.ml.chat.enabled`, I set it to `false` more or less the day it appeared, it hasn't […]

I just tagged version 1.0.0, hopefully the forever version, of @bodil/opt, the Option/Result datatype package for TypeScript that I started three years ago because every alternative was terrible. It's just a tiny thing, and a tiny little corner of what I've been working on the past three years […]

Her name is Jennie, and she is the Lib Dem MP for Torbay along with her human. Apparently she's been a regular at the Commons since the election and it's somehow escaped my notice.

Meet Jennie the guide dog - parliament's newest furry star
Jennie the golden retriever has become a star in her first week in the Commons as she accompanies new MP Steve Darling. He says she's a happy-go-lucky addition to the team, despite suffering a trauma last year when she was attacked by an XL bully.

I know I've been very Green Or GTFO about UK electoral politics lately, but I was watching a Commons debate on the telly today and I think I've just spotted someone on the Lib Dem bench I could actually picture as a competent head of state.

Have won the Turing Award: a mad gaggle of TESCREAL bros.

Have not won the Turing Award: Oleg Kiselyov.

Draw your own conclusions.

Honestly, this is why I'm classifying the Turing Award alongside the Nobel Peace Prize in the category of awards with much prestige but little credibility.

I think at least part of the blame here falls on the broader field of computer science and its institutions, specifically the folks who awarded the Turing Prize to Bengio, thus increasing his platform & credibility with journalists. /fin

Well, I got one detail wrong if Agent Krasnov's press conference is to be believed. He's not installing a puppet government, he's straight up annexing Venezuela. The puppet government may or may not come later.

I'm sure this is fine.
