On his podcast episode today, @arvidkahl.bsky.social said in passing that maybe we’re moving from software as a service to expertise as a service. That is profound. To thrive in the future, your software needs an “expertise” level that’s baked into the business logic.

My day in a nutshell...

Hey Claude... here's a conversation from Claude Code, explain what that idiot is doing wrong and how to fix it.

Hey OpenAI... here are conversations from Claude and Claude Code, explain what those complete idiots are doing wrong and how to fix it.

Time for a beer.

It’s the most wonderful day of the year…

There will be a college football game every week for the next five months!

Create a SaaS product, they said...
It'll be fun, they said...

They forgot to mention that you might waste most of a day troubleshooting stupid text formatting issues in your RAG chatbot...

Just had a wasp or hornet sting my calf while out for my run. #DoNotRecommend

Listening to a podcast where they talk about the ick of “thought leadership” content. It occurred to me that the problem is that true thought leadership don’t try so hard… they just create great content that is actually thought provoking. 🤔

Being a lawyer was too boring for me, so I decided to become a SaaS founder.

Now my life is full of excitement... you know, fixing merge conflicts, cleaning up datasets, staring at spreadsheets, and googling "why is my app blank."

My dog appears to loathe dog beds. I'm sitting in my office with a nice comfy dog bed right next to me... she has chosen the hard floor behind my chair instead. 🤣

Yeah, so Claude Code just hallucinated the schema for my database and was trying to get me to push its made up schema to production.

Fun times...

Got Claude Code to curse at me again. #Winning

Screw whack-a-mole... try playing whack-an-edge-case in software testing. We've managed to trip on nearly every one so far!

But alas, I think we may finally have them all resolved.

👆👆👆 Famous last word!!!

Since Saturday, I've...

-Refactored our plans and permissions from hardcoded to database-driven
-Added 9 DB tables
-Built admin interfaces to manage plans and permissions
-Built a fully dynamic subscription dashboard for users

And I don't code...

Bit props to @briancasel.com & Agent-OS.

I've decided that #AI is going to ruin humanity, but not for the reason you might think...

With human employees... I'm kind (even if I want to call them stupid).

With AI assistants... I call them idiots and curse AT them.

One can only wonder how long until this affects how we treat humans???

Is it just me or is half of software development made of up getting to testing, finding a bug, and thinking: "Well duh, I forgot the most obvious thing... like switching from live to test Stripe ids."
July 24, 2025 at 4:27 PM
Things I should be doing... finishing sorting the legal questions for my RAG chatbot database, running integration tests, consulting work.

What I'm doing instead... scrolling Bluesky.

Is there such a thing as a senior developer who can't actually write production code?!? Cause that's kinda what I feel like these days. My job is telling Claude Code what to do, watch it create the code, find the mistakes (big picture and small scale), and tell it to shape up or ship out.
July 23, 2025 at 2:52 PM
Over the past few days, I've gotten Claude Code to drop the f-bomb in a conversation and have it making jokes about its confidence level that we'll get Vercel to complete our build. All I can say is... #winning
July 22, 2025 at 9:35 PM
Claude Code reminds me of so many developers... why call a function directly when you could hop through 157 layers of files and function calls?!? It seems like half my job is asking Claude Code a question that starts "Are you making this too complicated?"
July 21, 2025 at 10:34 AM
Gotta be honest... Claude Code has probably won me as a long-term customer because of the sometimes cheeky thinking messages. I mean, who doesn't want an AI Agent that sometimes says it's "scheming"?!?!?
July 19, 2025 at 10:36 PM
For the first time ever, I have a developer who is AHEAD of schedule! "Yes, we are significantly ahead of schedule. The original estimate was 3-4 days for Task 1, but we completed it in what amounts to a few hours of work." Claude Code assisted by @briancasel.com's Agent OS.

Agentic AI Coding tools are great, but they are not for the faint of heart. You have to understand your codebase and be willing to debug a ton... or you'll end up wanting to throw your computer in the dumpster like Ron Swanson.
July 18, 2025 at 10:13 PM
If I had a dime for every time I forgot to "save" a script before trying to run it in VS Code, I'd be a thousandaire!
July 17, 2025 at 3:16 PM
Nothing will make you appreciate the nuances of language more than going through a list of questions that are matched using semantic search. Some matches with 80% confidence are real matches... some with 92% match are not.
July 16, 2025 at 4:26 PM
In a world of agentic AI coding, it seems to me that the value of a SaaS business is in the database, not the codebase.
