OK I'll use this opportunity to talk about Big Thief's "Double Infinity," a song that in a few months has become one of the most important of my life, in a way I didn't think would happen again. (thread)

It’s crazy how often “Eastbound and Down” can answer any TV prompt.
Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show:

What's the *best* ending to a show you've ever seen? Quote/reply etc

I’m in a Subway fast food restaurant in the year 2026 and they’re playing Peter Paul and Mary’s version of “Blowin’ in the Wind.” What even is reality.

This month is the ten year anniversary of Bowie’s passing. I can’t decide if it feels like yesterday or a hundred lifetimes ago. Ten years ago today Obama was still president!

These are my six favorite books published in 2025 (that I read). I chose six to make the grid clean.

Last night I literally mentioned to my ex wife that it’s shocking that Jonathan Richman never made a Christmas album.
Groups and artists you wish had made Christmas albums:

Jonathan Richman
Cocteau Twins
Bobby Hutcherson
The Everly Brothers
Blossom Dearie

Back when I was on staff at a print newspaper, I came into an elderly lady that I didn't know. I forget the full context. But she reached into her purse, and pulled out a clipped, neatly folded copy of a film review I wrote and said she liked it so much she wanted to carry it around with her.
What's a compliment you'll never forget?
What's an insult you'll never forget?

My kid is learning songs from The Bends on guitar and when he plays and sings them it's hard to describe how moving it is to me.

It is very on brand for me to finally fall in love with an indie-rock band (Big Thief) on their first album to get a mixed reception.

I don't get angry nearly as often as I used to but one thing that gets me worked up every time is how each device now requires a different cable, and sometimes adapters.

I put on a pop classic I hadn’t heard in ages to take my mind off my divorce and forgor it’s the mother of all divorce records lol. Hits different than when I was in my 20s.

It's genuinely incredible how Jonathan Richman has this singular muse that he's chased from writing about borrowing his dad's car as a teenager to contemplating his impending death as a 74-year-old

I love getting rejection emails for jobs I interviewed for 6 months ago on the week of Christmas.

I've heard more Christmas music this year than in recent years and it's easy to see why we've collectively settled on the Mariah song as THE song--it's far and away the best one out there, full of momentum and energy and sexiness in a world of dreary Silver Bells and White Christmases.

Tonight in my town there is a Phish-Radiohead mashup band opening for a Phish-Pink Floyd-Radiohead mashup band. My DMs are open if anyone wants me to attend and write about it.

“Here comes Santa Claus right down Santa Claus Lane” is such lazy writing.

I hate to bring up Phish twice in one day BUT…taking college level biology and anatomy after a lifetime of fandom—I never missed a question on the golgi apparatus or axilla.
Here's a question I've enjoyed asking on various social media platforms. What are vocabulary words you have learned from songs? For example, I learned the word "raze" from REM's World Leader Pretend.

Something non-Phish fans don't get: the sheer number of dreams that I've had that involve Phish concerts in some way. Not as annoying as it sounds, although I sometimes think they should count towards my stats.

fakemink, ecco2k, mechatok "MAKKA"

I think this is a "banger" but I'm not sure if people our age are ready for circa-2010 music to be a retro aesthetic by people who were toddlers when chillwave and the EDM peak happened.

The Hidden Cameras, “You Can Call”

This "should've been bigger" band's always had a dance element but this time my local record store actually filed them in that section. They should just write for pop stars and get that bag.
