Too much Baltimore sports for the leftists and too much leftism for the Baltimore sports fans
If you had previously been editor-in-chief of the Banner, you might be second-guessing your decision to leave to become a managing editor at the Washington Post overseeing .... features and sports
The Baltimore Banner's EIC Audrey Cooper announced in an email to staff that The Banner will expand its coverage to include D.C.-area sports teams, including the Nationals and Commanders.

I feel like sometimes it gets overlooked that Mike Elias paid Charlie Morton, Kyle Gibson and Tomoyuki Sugano a combined $33 million last year

And is now paying Chris Bassitt $18M this year

That’s $51M over 2 seasons

Maybe it would be better to pay 1 good guy $25M a year instead of 4 bad guys

Wait a minute, the Super Bowl is on Valentine’s Day next year?
February 9, 2026 at 12:58 PM
Mike Macdonald is Super Bowl MVP
February 9, 2026 at 3:00 AM
Incomprehensible not to go for 2 there, stupefying stuff
February 9, 2026 at 2:38 AM
That’s 3 TD passes Darnold has missed terribly
February 9, 2026 at 2:27 AM
More punts than points, what a game
February 9, 2026 at 2:17 AM
Sam Darnold looking like Trent Dilfer and Drake Maye looking like Kyle Boller

Psyched for Kid Rock
February 9, 2026 at 1:20 AM
Hope we get a couple more punts this half
February 9, 2026 at 12:42 AM
This is exactly the kind of game the Patriots needed it to be

Darnold has got to not turn the ball over
February 9, 2026 at 12:11 AM
Kurt Russell - still very handsome!

The left is getting the Super Bowl and the Olympics in the national divorce

Donald Trump segregating the White House
February 8, 2026 at 7:41 PM
People posting highlight videos of Flacco’s Super Bowl run and every play is Anquan Boldin fighting through multiple DBs to catch another jump ball Flacco flung up for grabs right before getting sacked
February 8, 2026 at 7:38 PM
Just googled an Olympic athlete and the lead search result was the outcome of the competition I’m currently watching on TV and that pretty much ended my interest in watching the rest of this competition

A data journalism story I've been waiting for is tracking the time and content of all Trump's posting, then correlating it with his daily schedule - before and after the posting - and arriving at some kind of framework for when he posts most and what the content is
Why grant Trump officials anonymity to say this, when it doesn’t match everything we know and have seen on Trump’s social media accounts for years?

And when only a few hours ago, the White House press secretary was practically defending the post and dismissing criticism of it as “fake outrage”?

Glad to see the Times is letting Erica Green write about this

Trump's bone deep inability to ever concede any shortcoming means he is going to double down on saying he meant to do this, and anyone who complains is hypersensitive

Let's see how that goes
I don’t know if this counts as a watershed moment or whatever but it is significant that even the NYT has to drop the pretense and call it what it is.

Hoping Jalen Suggs getting his first career triple-double is a good omen for his second cousin Terrell getting into the Hall of Fame tonight

Have a feeling he’s going to have to wait another year but absolutely deserves it (more than Yanda, who is also Hall-worthy but a notch below Sizzle)

Just finished Cameron Crowe’s memoir about his rock journalist years (it’s fine, Almost Famous is basically a documentary) and was astonished to learn Emmylou Harris is from the DMV

Dad was an officer at Quantico, Gram Parsons discovered her when she was playing the original Clyde’s in Georgetown!

I wonder what it feels like today to have left the Baltimore Banner last summer to become the Washington Post’s Managing Editor for sports and local coverage

If you have Gen Z kids, this is prime dad movie

I know one person who’s very excited about the alternate halftime show
February 3, 2026 at 11:36 PM
I am having intrusive thoughts about Vi Ripken and I’ll leave it at that

It’s weird that Trump broke the Postal Service for no reason during his first term and that’s just the way it is now

I’ve gotten mail 3 times in the last week. I know conditions are terrible but I can’t imagine how stressed I’d be if I were waiting for an important piece of mail
