At 98, my father couldn't remember I'd visited a few days before. But ask about that cabin in Maine from 1969? "Gus's place. Lake Megunticook." Crystal clear.
That summer I was nine. Got lost in the woods (mom was 50 yards away). Kicked a fallen log (learned why you don't). Tried to photograph

For the past week or so it has been brutally cold and no signs of life around anywhere. This morning I went for a bit a trudge in the snow, looks like Mr Mouse took Mrs Mouse out, would have loved to have seen them making these.
