Just a rural Texas Democrat trying to survive in the wild.
One thing I don’t hear talked about much is how this aggressive style of politics is impacting small communities. I’ve been a rural reporter for over 20 years. Our small-town meetings are chaotic now, and our towns are ripped apart by petty nonsense. Chaos used to be the exception, not the rule.

I would never, ever walk into a business and start spouting my hot political takes to the staff. It happens so often at my job, and I feel like I just have to sit here and take it. It’s such a weird way to conduct yourself, and I hate that it’s the norm now.

Vance is lying about illegal immigrants getting healthcare. I’m about to lose my Marketplace plan because I can’t afford the premium doubling right now with all of my other bills going up. It’s not possible to get a Marketplace plan as an illegal immigrant. They are just refusing to help Americans.

I was back at 26 Federal Plaza today, where an ICE agent violently threw this bereft woman to the ground in front of her kids. She had not touched him. She did not pose any threat. She had to be taken to the hospital. (🎥: Elias Eliahu)

Listening to Scott Braddock in the Whataburger drive thru after work is some Texas shit. @scottbraddock.bsky.social

Texas Take is (was?) my favorite podcast, but I skipped the recent Ted Cruz interview after seeing a description that seemed to be praising him. I now realize @scottbraddock.bsky.social might not just be on vacation. I deleted X and don’t see the scoop anywhere. I hope Scott is returning somewhere!

This is amazing and how I would like my tax dollars spent.

Is an autopen defense brewing? Trump says Biden’s pardons are invalid because of autopen, then pulls the “I didn’t sign it; other people handle that” while throwing Rubio under the bus. Sounds a lot like laying the groundwork for a defense/scapegoat scenario.

My dad, a Trump voter, called me last week and disagreed with the aggressiveness of the immigration crackdown. He called me last night and admitted that he missed two weeks of chemo because he was going to be responsible for the $17k bills. The clinic had issues with federal funding.

I’m trying hard to disengage a little for my own sanity, but I am angry today. I’m angry about Elon’s salute, I’m angry about a prayer group thanking god that they’re getting a guy in a “Camp Auschwitz” shirt out of jail, I’m angry that schools are planning what to do if they’re raided. I’m angry.

My son trying to convince me to try the McRib: Do you eat hot dogs? I’d say they are probably better than hot dogs.”

Gotta get this kid into marketing.

I successfully made it through Thanksgiving without a political debate. I walked into my office this morning and a local resident I deal with on a regular basis came in and wanted to talk about who I voted for. He was sure I voted for Trump because he was the obvious choice. Good freaking morning!

For the record, my name doesn’t indicate anything about my sex life. I was unaware of the term having that meaning! 🤣

The point of bringing in Hegseth, Gaetz and Gabbard is to burn it all to the ground. Senate: You must recognize this and stop it.

Pete Hegseth’s tattoos are the ones that white nationalists get. Federal law enforcement know these symbols well. Hegseth was banned from national guard duty at Biden’s inauguration for those tattoos. The Senate should consider this disqualifying for a nominee for Secretary of Defense—will they?

Admittedly I’m no expert in gender politics and I’m just a guy but I’m pretty sure that the election to the presidency of a man found by a federal jury to have forcibly penetrated a woman’s vagina with his hands in a department store dressing room isn’t a great thing for women.

As a Texas Dem, I think everyone is now feeling the way I always feel. It’s like you’re suffocating and there’s nowhere to turn. I have too many ties here to leave. I have a career that requires lots of socializing, but I never really fit in and don’t want to because they say/do awful things.
