I don’t like really like social media. I miss the old internet. Looking forward to the new zine era. Posting things I like and things I make or made. I have never accidentally unsubscribed.
My photo made the cover of Pan Pacific Entomologist six months ago but I just found out recently.

I have never chosen a refrigerator in my household and I’m 44! Such a big part of my day that others have had control over.

Oregon’s congressional delegation faces growing pressure as thousands pack town halls from La Grande to Hillsboro, with some gatherings so large that people were turned away. Protesters of all ages are rising against Trump’s policies and what they call an unconstitutional power grab with Elon Musk.
Trump’s first month sparks protests, packed town halls across Oregon
Oregonians are protesting the Trump administration and filling town halls with members of Congress on a regular basis. And the frustration with both parties is clear.

If you are an entomologist affected by these federal terminations or know someone who was, please DM me. I’m working on an advocacy plan and need to start gathering support.
As a first step, if you’re a member of the Entomological Society of America, I have a link for you, DM me. #entomology 🧪

Google “Trump dam release” and pick your favorite headline. On Friday our company couldn’t ship plants because of flooding. Some of that water was ours, btw. Way to screw over farmers #thankstrump #agriculture

More about weirdness at the NSF. This is why people are using the term “dark ages”.
🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

I love these posters I picked up at the last Entomological Society of America @entsocamerica.bsky.social meeting celebrating forceps and insect pins, important tools for any entomologist.

In a week of astonishing news, this nearly slipped through. National Science Foundation making sure it’s not too sciencey, as they remove references to climate change from the USDA websites. There probably some clever Internet-Musk-science-spacex comment but it’s been a long week.
Exclusive: NSF this week began to search through billions of dollars of grants the agency has already awarded for anything touching on topics that President Donald Trump has criticized. And NSF has blocked grantees and trainees from accessing funds while the review is underway. scim.ag/3El0NZh

Tomb of Galileo Galilei. I was fortunate to visit last year. His story seems very important right now. Stay strong to your convictions. Use evidence based reasoning. Make sure if your finger is preserved in a museum in Florence, it’s the middle one.
