On this day in 1879, Sir Sandford Fleming presented two papers ("Time Reckoning" and "Longitude and Time Reckoning") at a meeting of the Canadian Institute in Toronto. He suggested the creation of worldwide time zones. By 1929, all major countries had accepted time zones.
