The Florida dry season continues to exacerbate drought conditions, as the wet season ended on a dry note in September 2024. Since then, many areas have escaped impactful rainfall from the frequent cold fronts and meager moisture associated with the Arctic cold blasts so far this winter.

When the #Florida peak of the climatological wet season (roughly July through September) last year ended with a drier than normal September in 2025 (due to a persistent U.S. east coast trough and lack of tropical cyclone activity in Florida)…

📡Coming soon to you!🌎
A #weather pattern shift will occur this month. After the eastern half of the U.S. has experienced below normal and stormier conditions with a western ridge/eastern trough jet stream pattern, this will transition to somewhat the opposite over the next couple of weeks. #FLwx

Remember the snow and ice storm over portions of the south last week? While the brunt of it has passed, power outages remain for several people and businesses across portions of #Mississippi and #Tennessee. While warmer temperatures are expected this afternoon, a cool down is coming for Wed and Thu.

The 12Z (7 AM) weather balloon sounding profile from a couple of hours ago this Sunday morning 2/1/26 from National Weather Service Tampa Bay captured the diminishing depth of moisture with a near saturation near 900 mb or about 3,000 feet up in the atmosphere.

Breathtaking “visible” satellite images, as the sunrises over the eastern half of the U.S. on this cold Sun morning. 📡🥶

Note the cold air stratocumulus “cloud streets” forming over the warmer waters of the Gulf and western Atlantic, as Arctic-chilled air flows over the warmer water temperatures.

Cold morning with patchy #snow flurries continuing in spots across west central and southwest coast of Florida, as seen on radar data from @NWSTampaBay and the ongoing classic cold air stratocumulus “cloud streets” over the Gulf as colder air passes over warmer water. #FLwx

It is getting cold, blustery and wet out there! If you were watching the National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa radar data this afternoon, you would have noticed what appeared to be a sharp increase in the coverage of showers from one frame to the next over the Tampa Bay region. A 🧵
