Seed was a good play, bet it’s a great read too!
Just been to the launch of my sister's book Seed. Proud as a cat with two tails.

I still delight in the 1979 Alien score. So progressive, interesting, avant garde and appropriate - integrating just as below seamlessly into the narrative.
You know the saying that some actors have the ability to disappear into their roles?
Jerry Goldsmith (1929-2004) had the ability to disappear into his scores. Every film score he wrote was completely different than his last. And nearly all were brilliant.

I can’t wait to get back into this glorious venue for a gig again. It’s been so long!

What the historic St James Theatre will look like once rebuilt
As the venue edges towards its 100th birthday - when it will reopen - a team of architects and engineers are peeling back layers to restore it to its original 1920s era.

Why oh why is the Vetruvian Man emasculated in the Olympic graphics???
It’s so bizarre. Is it really prudery? I’m utterly baffled, after all it’s one if the most famous objects in the world!

And I say that coming from a country where the European settlers knocked off the knobs from our tekoteko!

@letterboxd.social screening of the wonderful Park Chan-Wook’s No Other Choice this evening at the equally wonderful #RoxyCinema Miramar tonight.

How many suburban cinemas have this quality of projection, sound, and damn good people… we’re so lucky!

And a bloody good beer to boot.

Let's play "What's the Score?"
Listen to the 5 music clips here. Figure out the movie each one is from (but NOT using an audio search!), and POST your answers IN THE REPLIES!
1 point per movie, 2 points for composers.
Guess the connecting theme for 5 bonus points!
Good luck!

That last paragraph is pretty sobering…
NZ has fallen into a 'crisis and response' pattern on climate disaster, experts say. Billions have been spent on storm recovery since 2023, while key climate adaptation funding and planning tools have been cut.

THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.

Great top 10 from last years Wellington Film Society screenings and, for me, the number one was a masterwork of restoration… not to mention a case study in use of frame.

Can’t wait for this years season to kick off!
