Not sure where he got it, but in grad school one of my teachers taught me that.
This (long) thread is about the key distinctions I rely on as a critic. There's a Twitter version from 2021. This one builds on that one.
I will post them one at a time. Ready?

Is not your father grown incapable
Of reasonable affairs? Is he not stupid
With age and alt’ring rheums? Can he speak? Hear?
Know man from man? Dispute his own estate?
Lies he not bed-rid? And again does nothing
But what he did being childish?

Kelley Jones does another masterful job on art this issue. Love the choreography of the fight, particularly the long vertical fall in that striking right panel. Also, kudos to Paul Mounts for the outstanding coloring.

I'm brokenhearted for them, but sixteen years for a big dog is quite an extraordinary life. And he died, happy and warm in his den, with a snack under his chin.
May we all be so lucky.

Look at this art. The detail that Flint Henry puts into everything is crazy good, and we still get the feeling of motion in the figures. How colorist Martin Thomas keeps it all straight, page after page, actually enhancing the impact even more, amazes me.
