You know — like the Craig Arnold poem.

I love my wife, my cats, women’s basketball, and being a Michigander. The rest, as Nabokov said, is rust and stardust.
The Golden State Valks are a beautiful lesson in why it pays off to:

1. Be ready for your moment
2. Be coachable
3. Trust planning and preparation
4. Don’t put your ego above your mentor or coach’s experience

They’re a whole team of castaways, about to beat the 1 seed. That’s powerful. #wnba

I’m to believe that Taylor…

- got engaged on the slowest media day of the week
- ensured there were public pics
- made the sort of post about it a teenager might
- during her album promo cycle
- during his NFL season lead up

… and that somehow, I’m supposed to believe this is legit and not PR? No

The lady that did the interview with Candace during the game did her big one though. She had the receipts for her on Angel and she had no choice but to eat crow and compliment her. Love that Angel had on her receipts ready shoes tonight too 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Phee is extremely talented and absolutely one of the best in the league. However, Becky Hammon made an excellent point. She said something like if you’re using A’ja as the standard of who is the best you have your answer for who mvp is.

Beloved #wnba community, I feel like we can be less angry (though perhaps sadder) if we can acknowledge:

The league has pivoted away from being a sports league and toward being an entertainment league. Coaches and refs are encouraged to participate toward that end. Perhaps some players are too. 🧵

Re: #WNBA, objects being thrown on the court, & trying to prevent said object throwing:

While players are frustrated and embarrassed by recent events, it’s trans fans who feel fear and stress.

If you wear a packer, you’re now afraid of pat-downs or being rejected from entry. This isn’t ok.

Dallas is never going to win if Hines-Allen is the best they have to offer at the 4 and Curt/Chris are the best they have to offer as coach. And no I will not lay off Chris. They fired a woman whose team was decimated by injuries to hire this inexperienced jack off #WNBA

Hot takes on the #WNBA (1/3)

1. There are no serious “rivalries” in this league and it’s so fvcking cringy that they’re trying to force the creation of them. Half these damn women have played on 75% of the other teams for at least a season and are dating players on other teams. They’re not enemies.

I have no issue with the name Portland Fire.

Y’all, there are Portland fans who have waited as long for this moment as I have for the (hopefully) Detroit Shock to return. If folks have sentimental attachment to the name, that truly is fine.

My issue is the aggressively gendered rose logo. Cringe.

My simple tribute to the lion-hearted Andrea Gibson. They saved my life.

I guess each post can only have 4 images, so this is a 2 post thread.

Sorry but Indiana is trash & so is Indianapolis. Your Lt Governor said ON RECORD that the 3/5s compromise was a good thing.

The women who play sports in Indy are chained there by contracts, not bc anyone thinks that state gives a damn about women or about profiting on the bodies of Black athletes.

The general public doesn’t understand the WNBA fan base. We reject the sensationalized narrative of one person being the face of the league. We enjoy the competitiveness on the court and know that these women take nothing for granted. They mostly respect each other and we stan many of them!

2 things can be true:

1. Hair pulling / eye gouging = never ok.

2. Some moves truly are basketball plays or accidental. And some players flop or embellish contact.

We need to resist narratives that demonize players & remove accountability from where it belongs: The refs & inconsistency.

RGIII really said “I, an underemployed man w/few skills, hate a particular Black woman. And I have my reasons for it! I do! I hate her because SHE is hateful. People tell me she’s hateful. Anyway, don’t be mean to her about being Black. Hating on people is not ok. It’s ok when I do it. But not you.”

“People would be afraid of my powers if ever were vain enough to let them know.”

— me, to myself, after I solve NYT Letter Boxed in three passes using a word so obscure that even I’m hazy on its meaning

This extension is worth nearly 10x the entire WNBA salary this year. So someone should ask Mat Ishbia if he thinks Booker is worth at least 100x more than all of the Mercury. And remember the money Booker is getting, is also money Ishbia gets.
FROM SHAMS:

BREAKING: Phoenix Suns superstar Devin Booker has agreed to a two-year, $145 million maximum contract extension with the franchise through the 2029-30 season, the highest annual extension salary in NBA history, CAA’s Jessica Holtz and Melvin Booker told ESPN. https://t.co/A5U5VPlSgx

WNBA reffing is getting worse and worse each game. And it was never good to begin with!

So I say what I’ve always said: Mic the refs. I want to hear the thought process behind each decision. I want them to stand 🔟 toes down.

If that can’t do that, why should I believe they’re not fixing games?

While Pride month may be over, Alyssa Thomas playing this game with SO MUCH JOY because she has her love back by her side has given me enough queer joy to last the year through.

It also doesn’t hurt that the Fever lost.

The reason the NBA is a garbage product (and so is MNCAA basketball) is the one and done stuff.

When players need to be older to get drafted they:

1. Mature + learn to play in real coaching systems during college

2. Get stronger + healthier due to professional support in college

3. Have degrees

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone care about winning the Commissioner’s Cup / considering that a “championship” before this year.

How desperate are y’all to get that girl an imaginary chip for a game in which she didn’t even play?

Also, beloveds, and I say this married to a proud Kentucky girl:

I TOLD YOU the WNBA was not expanding to the American south no matter how many Pat Summit fans there are.

Y’all have been furious at me but I am vindicated.
