Took my own advice and ran this morning without headphones, to air out the brain.

Highly recommended, especially now.

Yeah, this is exactly right - and goes for much of the selling off of our system to plutocrats by both parties.

I heard it expressed as:
"We are slowly coming to realize that much of our rules of governing are a loose set of norms and gentleman's agreements."

Reflections. Loch Chon on a still sunrise. The wind soon picks up at this loch so still conditions tend to be neither regular or long lasting in my experience. I spent a few minutes frantically moving around the shore until I settled on this composition.

How Trump is using "shock and awe" as a governing strategy and how we fight back.

Well, I killed my Facebook account tonight.
They make it really difficult.
None of the online tutorials of the last weeks, nor Meta's own guide, were accurate.
I had to intuit my way to the final deletion.
If you log in again before they get around to deleting it, then you'll have to do it again.

I didn't realize this.
Thanks K Kelley!
A big misconception about Greenland is that since it’s labeled a Danish colony, its residents are just a bunch of white dudes named Kristian—which is extremely harmful and inaccurate.

The population is 85% Indigenous! It belongs to the Kalaallit people, not to Denmark and CERTAINLY not to the U.S.

Super cool.
My latest for @newscientist.bsky.social is a response to a reader question about how we know that dark matter isn't just dust! It's a nice thing to take a break with, given everything else happening in our corner of the universe.

Why we should talk about invisible matter, not dark matter
The word "dark" is misleading when it comes to dark matter, because it suggests there is some kind of absorption of light happening, says Chanda Prescod-Weinstein

Bluesky is built on an open source protocol that can be moved to another server once they start federation capabilities. Meaning baddies can buy the company but you could move your account somewhere else.

If we can do that for YouTube TikTok etc then a few evil nerds wouldn't control our brains

Might be worth making a distinct declaration of such a thing.
This probably seems grim, but given recent events, it might be a good idea to publicly display a declaration of life, especially if you fall into one of the target demographics

Take mine or make your own:
