In 2022, I wrote about the impact of the trade between the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies that brought Ryne Sandberg to the Cubs. Here’s a link to my @ibwaa.bsky.social article. ibwaa.substack.com/p/revisiting...
While writing Bud Clancy’s SABR bio (link included), I learned about the 1924 World Tour with the Chicago White Sox and New York Giants. Today I visited the site of the final three games of that series. This is Colombes Stadium (officially known as Stade Yves-du-Manoir). sabr.org/bioproj/pers...

My third book of 2026. ⚾️

I’m fairly certain this book shattered the record for usage of the word: nostril(s). I can’t imagine second place is even remotely close. ⚾️

Picked up two baseball postcards this week. Both are from Central Illinois: Streator Reds (1908) and Cullom Juniors (1912). ⚾️

Baseball 2025: During December (and into 2026), I’ve been reading works nominated for SABR’s annual Baseball Research Award. ⚾️📚
December 31, 2025 at 11:58 PM
Baseball 2025: During November I had two original pieces of baseball artwork commissioned for Christmas gifts. ⚾️
December 31, 2025 at 11:29 PM
Baseball 2025: During October, I finally watched to Cubs win a playoff game … live and in person … when they beat the Brewers in the NLDS. ⚾️
December 31, 2025 at 6:14 PM
Baseball 2025: During September I closed out the final two days of the regular season with back-to-back games at American Family Field and Wrigley Field. ⚾️
December 31, 2025 at 2:19 PM
Picked up some light reading to start the new year. 😬
December 30, 2025 at 11:49 PM
Baseball 2025: During August, I caught a Kane County Cougars game in Geneva, Illinois with some SABR friends. Bonus: it was Star Wars Night, too. ⚾️
December 30, 2025 at 11:39 PM
Baseball 2025: During July my favorite baseball player of all time, Ryne Sandberg, passed away. It was a difficult task, but I was honored to lead SABR Chicago’s Remembering Ryno virtual session. ⚾️
December 29, 2025 at 10:38 PM
Baseball 2025: During June I attended SABR 53 in Dallas. I finally crossed the Texas Rangers’ new ballpark off of my list (we had tickets for April 2020). I also caught a minor league game in Frisco, enjoyed another pack night, and snagged a SABR cookie. ⚾️

Baseball 2025: During June, I made the drive down to St. Louis for a Dodgers-Cardinals game. My last game at Busch Stadium was in 2010. ⚾️

Need proof that I’m an original Star Wars fan? I looked at that wall and mentioned that it reminded me of the backs of action figure packaging.
December 27, 2025 at 6:06 PM
Baseball 2025: During May, the Dwight Historical Society hosted a vintage baseball game at historic Renfrew Park. It was the first time Dwight, Illinois hosted a vintage game since baseball was, well … base ball (yes two words) in the 19th century. ⚾️
