A lot of this is aimed at Paid Search, but some very interesting points for Organic specialists too.

I know it's easy to scoff: get 100 SEOs in a room and you'll get 101 opinions.

And three of them will be mine!

I've looked for Matt Diggity on Bluesky (and even on Treads), but he's only on Twitter.

I would have replied directly to him but I dumped Twitter 2 years ago and haven't looked back.

But most of this applies to "traditional" SERPs as well as AI – and has done for years!

OFC, there are people out there who are following these mythical “rules” but they’re also building link farms, stuffing keywords, spinning articles (now with AI) and running PBNs.

And as for the Top 10 observation, the idea that SERPs trackers charted the progress of the top 100 placings was always a nonsense, since most of these rankings are changing by the day or even the hour.

In fact, top 10 is so 2015! With the ever-encroaching Position 0, top 3 is pushing it.

Having said that, we’ve always known search engines DO follow no-follow links; it’s just that we’ve suggested they don’t associate what they find at the other end with the link or its anchor text.

But getting 1m links from one or a few sites went away as a ranking factor with PANDA in 2011.

A guy called Matt Diggity has posted a piece on the Hell site about what link-building means for Agentic search.

When anyone uses the phrase "every rule we learned about" I reach for the exit.

Am I alone in thinking – aside from perhaps the no-follow links point – it's yesterdays news?

Well, that's going to be an interesting SERP.

Mind you, with agentic search, it's pretty much the case anyway.

This is not so say we shouldnt have some form of measurement - but it's is an interesting perspective that asks us "well what exactly are we tracking" and why?

Why SEOs need to rethink how they track LLMs | Jane Flanagan posted on the topic | LinkedIn
I’m seeing a lot of SEOs scrambling to demonstrate they’re tracking LLM visibility. But here’s the question: *What* are they tracking? Cause if you’re porting over the same list of keywords that you’ve been ranking for Google, you’re missing something key: Most of us don’t AI the way we Google. That’d be like treating Data from TNG like a toaster. I don’t have a relationship with Google: I just use it as the start button of the internet. And the key to that ‘start button’ is a reductive keyword or phrase. From there, I *might* find my way to a website and form a relationship (real or imaginary, trusting or not) with a brand or content maker. But with LLMs, I form a relationship with the tool itself. I can be long-winded, take tangents, follow up with clarifications, inject humour, and more. Some even remember things I’ve told them that I’ve long forgotten. How I talk to AI isn’t reductive; it’s expansive. With AI, it’s not going to be straightforward KW:Result tracking anymore. It’ll be much messier, idiosyncratic, and gloriously human, with all the complexity that entails. #AIO #SEO #GEO #Content | 27 comments on LinkedIn
