Protecting communities by holding corporations accountable for their methane emissions
More than 80 large methane plumes have been detected over gas infrastructure in the Appalachian Basin in 1 year. Satellite & airborne data links them to major gas operators. This is why independent monitoring & accountability for #BigGasPolluters is so important. https://bit.ly/4bR6M71

5 new ways oil and gas polluters could be getting a free pass in 2026.

From delayed methane rules to ending emissions data collection, the Trump administration is systematically rolling back safeguards that protect public health, taxpayers, and our climate.

A new year. Same methane problem. Stronger accountability.

Since Trump took office, federal agencies have delayed, weakened, or moved to eliminate key methane safeguards, from pollution fees to emissions reporting. In response, a coalition of organizations is stepping in to fill the gaps.

Methane is often sold as “natural gas.” But when it leaks, it’s one of the most powerful climate pollutants there is.

At #BigGasPolluters, we track methane pollution because it’s frequently underreported, hard to detect, & deeply harmful to our climate and our health. ➡️ BigGasPolluters.org.

#BigGasPolluters was created to hold fossil fuel companies accountable at a moment when regulation is being weakened. We connect satellite data, on-the-ground investigations, & peer-reviewed science to show what oil & gas companies are actually doing — not just what they say. ➡️ BigGasPolluters.org

Thank you to Craig Watkins for a stunning piece of original art to for Dec's #PolluterOfTheMonth!

His doodle creations of misfit characters, set against something darker & more menacing, serve as an excellent spotlight of the fossil fuel industry's thirst for profit & pollution of our planet.

Christmas came early for Big Oil's billionaires:

✅ Hamm loyalists placed inside the White House
✅ New permits to drill for oil & gas in WY
✅ Methane waste fee delayed
✅ Fuel efficiency standards for cars rolled back
✅ Wildlife protections weakened
✅ Expanded tax breaks for fossil fuel companies

If the numbers didn’t stun you, here are more reasons EQT earned December’s #PolluterOfTheMonth:
-Air-pollution events documented by Earthworks, even after their "net zero" pledge
-A proud member of the trade group that helped kill the US methane waste fee

Our #PolluterOfTheMonth, EQT Corporation, says it’s “Net Zero.”

But that claim only covers a fraction of its pollution — not the gas it sells, not the leaks from its pipelines. And what about the methane that satellites keep catching above its sites?

"emissions of methane, the main ingredient in natural gas, have risen sharply in the United States in recent years. By the Trump administration’s own estimates, delaying compliance could result in an additional 3.8 million tons of methane entering the atmosphere"
