The Hearth (1/21)

A sapphic horror comic about witchcraft and hunger in the dead of winter.

Art of Comics is one of my favorite kinds of podcasts - expert commentary, presented in a way that's so accessible that I learn something each time

I'm working my way thru the backlog, reading the books before I listen, and I love the chance to get a second or third angle on some really great books

Socks! I finished my first pair and am now working the next pattern from The Sock Knitting Bible, toe up on circular needles. I decided to jump ahead and do two-at-a-time, hopefully it helps me stay consistent across the pair.

This one will be for me.
A partially-completed knit sock, stretched over a hand to show progress. The sock toe is covering the fingers and the knitting stops a little past the halfway point down the palm - the thumb is fully covered. The toe of the sock is grey and the main body is a full purple. The stitches are tiny and very precise. The sock is being knit on a nylon circular needle, with another sock next to it on the same loop, so the loop is folded out of the way with half a sock in the corner of the picture. In the background of the photo is a basket full of more sock yarn, imposing in the staggering amount of work that it represents

I need to figure out coping skills for interacting with the parallel world my cis coworkers live in - every time I have to explain news that they never heard, about how trans people are under constant attack, I'm taking psychic damage.

At least my coworkers don't tell me I'm imagining things, tho.

More sock knitting progress - I'm about halfway done with the heel and I like how thick and soft it feels.

Also spending my downtime leaving voicemails for my senators - use 5calls.org and call yours too, please.
A white hand is holding half a sock on knitting needles. The back flap of the sock is longer and has some knobbly bits sticking out because of the heel stitch. Below the needles are the completed leg and ribbed cuff of the sock. The sock is striped in orange, pink, yellow, purple, and other colors. The project is resting on an open book, open to the pattern for this sock.

I'm exhausted but I spent the better part of the last two weeks learning to knit socks. So even if everything else sucks, maybe I can keep a few feet warm.
Half of a sock, still on the knitting needles. The cuff is ribbed tightly and the yarn changes colors at random intervals, so there are many stripes of various heights, mostly in the red-orange-yellow family. The sock is held on my fingers to demonstrate size, my four fingers barely fit inside it from the open bottom.

I picked up my new comics and also found some discount scratch & ding graphic novels - I am SO excited for this issue of The Power Fantasy and the store clerk checking me out said this issue of @fellhound.bsky.social's S.I.R. is really great, we might have talked the other clerk into trying it!
