Hey Nanjala, we are relaunching Ankara Press in 2026. Now's the time.
A couple of years ago Bibi Bakare-Yusuf started an imprint of African romance novels that shut down quickly apparently for lack of demand. I think it was an idea before its time and I think she should try again.

Hey Robtel! I finally made an account here. Good to see you.

African book publishing must reclaim the word ‘local’
African publishing needs a new language — and infrastructure — to turn its own “locals” onto the global stage.

This is a wonderful critique of a recent decree to silence indigenous languages in educational settings in Nigeria, or as the author so aptly puts it, "On the Silencing of our Tongues." I wish the Lagos Review was here to add to the BLK Sky conversation.
An Open Letter to the Honourable Minister of Education, Federal Republic of Nigeria on the Silencing of Our Tongues - The Lagos Review
To argue then, a mere three years into an experiment of teaching our children in their mother tongues is the reason for their poor...
