That was when we still thought of ourselves as the "good guys." If we were running the place now, we would probably create a much bigger mess and have roving bands of masked thugs disappearing anyone who dared to complain about it.
The Americans abandoned numerous bases in Greenland after the Cold War, only Pituffik space base remains. They left behind all their shit to pollute the pristine Greenlandic environment

Teddy Roosevelt said, "Speak softly and carry a big stick." It's great advice, but the point is to avoid having to use that stick. Instead, we have a government with no moral compass that wants to go around swinging that stick at anyone and everyone who looks at them funny.
