Medical Justice’s new report shows immigration detention is harming vulnerable people — and it’s getting worse. We stand with them in calling for an end to this system. Please take a moment to read their findings. 📖 medicaljustice.org.uk/annual-revie.... #EndDetention #MigrantRights

Detention is harmful and the decision to detain a person should not be taken lightly. But according to Home Office statistics released today, 51% of people they detained were later released back into the community. This raises the serious question: why were they detained at all?

Camps like Wethersfield and Napier are dangerous, dehumanising, and entirely unacceptable.

We’ve joined Asylum Matters and over 70 organisations calling for their immediate closure. People seeking asylum deserve safe homes in our communities

A very powerful thread created by @detentionaction.bsky.social on immigration detention in the UK, read more below 👇
Detention is a hidden corner of the UK's immigration system, where thousands of people each year are held in prison-like conditions, without a time limit. That's why we've put together this explainer, part of a series about the harm caused by immigration detention and what can be done about it.

Thank you @aviddetention.bsky.social for sharing. As an organisation working with people in Yarl’s Wood, we see these injustices far too often. No one should be unlawfully detained. #EndDetention
Nadra Tabasam Almas, of Leicester, was detained at Yarl's Wood detention centre in 2018 for 2-weeks.

She was unlawfully detained before her ability to work, buy food and socialise was “grossly restricted”, the high court has said.

1/2 Like many of our partners, we were appalled yesterday that the government chose to release footage of people being forcibly deported from the UK. Many of the people we support in #immigrationdetention have lived in the UK for many years; have family here, or have been trafficked, exploited-
