Today is @eucoworkingday.bsky.social

It’s also Mental Health Awareness Week 🇬🇧

This isn’t about vibes.

It’s about survival.

For so many freelancers, creators & neurodivergent business owners — coworking is a lifeline not an upgrade.

Coworking saved my mind.
But it can’t save everyone.
What got me through wasn’t a productivity hack.
It was a room full of freelancers who noticed when I showed up.
No onboarding.
No brand strategy.
Just presence.

What’s a Third Place—and Why Community Isn’t Enough

A London pub owner named Ayden noticed something shifting: fewer pints, more laptops.

No branding, no big launch—just opened the doors, offered Wi-Fi, and followed his gut.

What Is a Third Place (And Why Community Alone Won’t Save Us)
A few years back, a London pub owner named Ayden saw something shifting. People weren’t coming in for pints—they were coming in with laptops.

🧵 Thread: The truth about running a coworking space (and burnout)

Look, running a coworking space isn’t just about tables, coffee and wifi.

It's about people.

And honestly?

It can quietly burn you out.

I think ANY community role burns you out.

Buenos días, #Vigo, Galicia.

¡Feliz fin de semana!

This week has been a slog; I was grumpy as f@
But walking around this today practising Spanish with my mate, Cris flipped me back to sunshine and possibly.

It’s amazing what a bit of sun and blue sky can do for you mood 🙏☀️🇪🇸

🧵 London Coworking in Numbers: Why Your Space Needs to Be on the Map.

(Back of napkin maths thread!)

(1) London = 8.8 million people.

Over 6.8 million are economically active, meaning they’re working, freelancing, or running a business.

How many coworking spaces do we have?

In 2009, I declared myself a "digital nomad," picturing effortless productivity from charming cafés and beachside huts in #Argentina.

Reality hit harder than I imagined...

The past weeks have been about community, culture, connection, and the invisible glue that holds them together: social capital.

Building relationships and trust isn’t just helpful in coworking, business, and life—it’s the foundation of everything we do together.

Vision and mission statements—most of them suck.

They sound like something you’d copy and paste from a 1990s business book.

I was working on this big project in 2021, putting in a shit load of effort, when a 'senior leader' casually said,

“Oh, vision?

That’s just a marketing job.

FFS! 🤦🏻

Confusion harms the community.

Members must understand what’s happening and where to find updates.

Effective communication fosters trust and maintains engagement.

Clarity is essential.

Confusion drives members away.

Select a channel and keep consistency.

Is your communication scattered?

Could you pick one platform and stick with it?

Your community will thank you.

Consistency will keep your members connected, whether it's through Slack, email, member software, or WhatsApp.

One Coworking Community Builder Cohort member struggled with scattered communication—emails, WhatsApp, Slack—and members often missed updates.

By putting everything into a single email newsletter, engagement doubled, and members felt more connected.

Clear communication transformed their space.

Inclusivity isn’t optional.

A community that feels exclusive will shrink.

Ask your members what they need to feel welcome.

Inclusivity will create a stronger, more connected space for everyone.

Many coworking leaders unintentionally design events for just one type of member.

The result?

Other voices get left out.

The solution is simple: Ask for feedback and diversify your programming.

Inclusivity will transform your community.

Inclusivity starts with listening.

Today, ask one member: “What would make this space feel more welcoming to you?”

Their answer will show you what your community needs.

Hospitality is the foundation of a community.

Without it, coworking spaces feel cold and transactional.

Hospitality isn’t just for hotels.

It’s the heartbeat of coworking.

Get to know your people.

What are they working on?

##Hospitality
January 20, 2025 at 7:10 PM
When you go to a coworking space where no one said hello—not even the staff.

It feels like a waiting room, not a community.

Contrast that with spaces where you’re greeted by name.

Hospitality creates a sense of belonging that brings people back.

What does hospitality look like in your coworking space?

It’s not just about being nice—it’s about making people feel seen and valued.

A simple, intentional hello will start the chain reaction.

Someone in the Coworking Community Builder Cohort hit people with email blasts that received no response. 😨

Because they accidentally pitched “community” but hadn’t built one.

When they started small—with a few coffee chats—things changed.

Engagement occurs person-to-person.

Building a community isn’t easy—it’s full of messy, human moments.

One thing I’ve seen work time and time again?

Start small.

Talk to one member.

Ask about their work.

Community begins with a conversation.

You must know you can't 'sell' a community by now.

You have to create it.

If members walk in and see desks but no connections, you've lost them.

Start small: today, send a personal message to one of your members.

Real connections don't need a sales pitch.
