Five years ago. Happy gotcha day bud.

It went great. I'd really recommend this short Arendt piece given, well, everything. Very accessible for the Intro class.
Tomorrow should be a good teaching day.

We're housesitting a friend's kittens until the sidewalks get cleared. His name is St. Valentine and he looks like a future philosopher to me.

I should be finishing my essay on monism in Schelling, Plato, and Spinoza, but I can't stop working on my Moby-Dick essay. That book truly is monstrous in all the best ways.

Upgraded the stylus on my turntable and damn does it sound better.

Hell yeah.

Very cool find over at Repo Records.

My dog hates free jazz. He also appears to be quite confused by the cello.

Using bluebooks in class is such a double edged sword. I love reading my student's unfiltered thoughts on a topic, but grading 80 each week is a bit much.

Hell yeah.

This is a killer album.

It's early (we've only had two classes due to the snow) but I think this might be my best group of students yet.

Missed out on his true calling: Sled dog. Instead he ended up as a philosopher's emotional support beast.

Looks like the cover for the second part of Sean's study of Schelling's positive philosophy was (accidentally?) posted on the EUP website. I'm not always the biggest fan of his work but when it comes to the late Schelling, he's one of the best.

I will promote this book at every opportunity. Put in a pre-order request through your library if you can! (Hardback is a bit pricey but EUP always does more affordable paperbacks six or so months after the first release).

Absolute Dialetheism: Hegel, Schelling, and the End of Alterity" will be published in late May 2026. It will be published with Edinburgh University Press in their "New Perspectives in Ontology" series. The cover art is from Malevich's "The Black Square."

It sure would be a shame if every hotel in Minneapolis hosting ICE agents kicked them out into the streets as this storm hits.

It has arrived. "The Revenge of Reason" by Peter Wolfendale (@deontologistics.bsky.social). I've been looking forward to this one for a while and so far it does not disappoint.

"History never ends, and neither does the work of Reason" (43).

This is great news!
so pleased that *Romantic Empiricism* is now out in Paperback for a much more reasonable price!

*And it is slightly revised - with some important additions of reference to works that appeared in the last few years*

This looks super cool. I really wish I'd learned more about the Kyoto School during my grad research. Take advantage of the opportunity if you're able.
Let’s Go! Kyoto School Summer School at the Chinese University of Hong Kong 2026. Applications now accepted!

When the Boy understandably barks at squirrels outside the window I used to say "go off queen". I've now changed that to "shine on you crazy diamond" just to mix things up.

Ordered a record the other day but the payment messed up and went through twice. Today, the guy that runs the label (who also plays drums in the band) texted me to make sure I was just trying to buy one.

Support local musicians.

Check out In Angles.

As things spiral from bad to worse, I'm just trying to remember the joy with which I began this year (watching the Boy run across a frozen lake for the first time).
