Rhetoric over substance? Impact narratives are less problematic than we think
Despite being emulated in similar exercises around the world, the UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) had been widely criticised in the UK. One sticking point is the use of narrative impact ca…

A lot of editing to do for my PhD - just found in an old draft: "A #REF #Impact case study is not a balanced bedtime story" which I fear is a tone that I might not get away with 😅

I'm loving that one @newcastleuni.bsky.social has one toilet area with lots of individual rooms, including one "male" one "female" and about 10 labelled "all gender". This feels so inclusive, avoids "othering", and shows cis men that we need to share our space with period product bins.

On the other end of the spectrum: "In order to balance the needs of the whole school community, trans students get the option (!) to have their own room on school trips. This means that they're being separated from everyone else. (And if they don't want that, then they're not coming on the trip.)"

Today's tiny act of raising #trans awareness: messaging the lovely Etsy seller of reusable period pads to suggest some non-girly designs along the flowery ones. I would've loved to provide some dinosaur- or football-themed pads for my teenager. She (the seller) promised to look into this <3
