There are two ways to make clouds: 1. introduce a source of vapor, or 2. introduce cooling to condense gases that are already present. Last night, we saw the second type when the rocket reached a sudden temperature drop at the top of the troposphere, and the water in the exhaust suddenly condensed.

My class rearranged the solar system as part of an ice breaker. Each person got to make one change. It was as pleasantly chaotic as I thought it would be.

It's important to find joy in small, everyday things. Like a home team win, and a free, new, tiny friend.

Vega, the Bald Eagle at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore was rescued the times before being deemed unreleasable. She has a neurological condition that makes it hard for her to fly, even though he wings are fine. I love her so much.

#AGU24 geologists, hardest question of the conference: what's your favorite rock or mineral?

Richard Cartwright did such a good build-up and reveal of the Uranian moon spectra on his last slide that I wanted to clap right then. 😂 #showmanship #AGU24

Dear planetary scientists of #AGU24, I've been working on a crowd-sourced handbook for students and early career scientists for the hidden curriculum, helpful tips, and best practices of our field. Please al check it out, and add to it if you can! github.com/belindathemo...

I found a very cool water bottle that looks like it must belong to an #AGU24 attendee. If you've lost yours, please find it at the lost and found!

Did I just commit myself to carrying around a roll of paper nearly half my height for the next 9 hours? Yes. Is it worth it for a *free* geological map poster of The Keystone State? Absolutely. #AGU24

I've only lived in Baltimore for 4 months, and already, I'm so tired of people telling me it's dangerous. There are dangers, but not from the people.
Important read.
According to BPD: "The average monthly number of arrests for Baltimore City youth in 2023 and the first seven months of 2024 remained roughly half what they were in 2018 and 2019, and one-third the levels in 2016 and 2017." www.sentencingproject.org/reports/the-...

Great talk by Bianca Corpuz on the health impact of extreme heat events in Baltimore. I'll add another reason why we should care about extreme heat in Baltimore: it's the third-largest majority Black city in the US - extreme heat events in Baltimore are a climate/social justice issue! #AGU24

Serious #AGU24 science from Bill McKinnon that also kind of funny - Saturn's moon Mimas might be a little bit hollow. Imagine: a sailor on the Mimas ocean would gaze up at a celestial sphere of ice.
