At the beginning of June, I started a new chapter. This summer, I'm taking care of my kids (helping my daughter get healthy post-accident), exploring AI tools I never had bandwidth for, working with some incredible teams, and giving myself permission to breathe💙
Part 1 of my (currently) 7-part series on Community is live. This examines the shift of what it meant to be a "local" community, and how our expectations need to change now. bekahhw.com/when-local-c...

What a way to end summer. Took 16 to Linkin Park (1st CD I ever bought), facilitated my first Continue launch week (went great!), escaped to Cape Cod with 13, and got the kids ready for school. Sometimes the best weeks are the busiest ones 🥰

Yesterday at Virtual Coffee, we talked about the impact of AI on mental models and the impact on edu, kids, healthcare, etc. Not for or against AI, but with the perspective of “it’s here, and it’s impacting society, so how do we make sure it does it in the best way possible.”

I’m moving into a new decade today. I’ve officially hit my 40s. The last decade has been both the best and worst of my life. It’s had the greatest highs, followed by the greatest lows, and the lowest lows, followed by the highest highs.

Big news, coming soon. Recently, I had a great interview experience w/ an amazing team and got an offer. But an unexpected opportunity came up with a company I’m really excited about. It was too good to pass up. I’m super grateful for the experience and excited for what’s ahead.

This week, I invested in my son's startup. He and his friends pitched the idea. I funded the supplies. Gave them seed money. Let them lead.

4 hours later, they brought in a 1100% return. Sometimes, the best investment isn't in the market.

Sometimes, it's in a lemonade stand 😂

One of the simplest ways to build goodwill with someone is attention to detail. Spell their name right. Remember their kids' names. Ask about their dog. Find the detail that's meaningful to them.

Since OpenSauced shutdown, I've been exploring new ways to look at open source projects. I've really appreciated looking at collaboration metrics and their impacts. They tell the story of the human-side of open source. Here's more about that story: dub.sh/collab-cognee
Beyond Stars and Forks: Why Open Source Needs Better Collaboration Metrics
This post explores why open source needs better collaboration metrics and how tools like Collab.dev can reveal the human side of contribution, from PR responsiveness to community health.

Today I went to a new gym and did the KB version of the murph:

- 1 mi run
- 100 kb snatches
- 200 kb clean and presses
- 300 kb swings

I may not wake up tomorrow but I regret nothing ☠️
