Wow! A new paper!
One of the main topics in scholarship on ancient skepticism is the "rustic vs. urbane" debate: whether skeptics were weirdo forest sages with no beliefs or normal guys with everyday beliefs. I think this debate is kind of silly and I show why in this paper!

teachers always complain about students having nothing to say after lectures but that doesn't make sense. if you've explained yourself well there should be no questions. a good lecturer should strive for a reaction of respectful silence. perhaps applause

In the preface to his lectures on Machiavelli, Strauss says that Machiavelli was evil. So straight away I know he doesn't think Machiavelli was evil. I know how this works.

it's a difficult concept to pin down, but I would define speculative fiction as any fiction in which a character utters the oath "blast!"
