Not a very productive day yesterday even with my lil buddy's motivation. I thought I would take a short nap first and I took some new medication to help me sleep. It knocked me out until morning. 😩

As Microsoft is rebranding itself into Microslop, I'm looking into using Linux for our #Godot, #Playdate and #Raylib projects. Linux Mint looks promising. I'll take a dive pretty soon and hope everything works out. I'm seriously sick of this CEO and his Copilot.

It's a common issue for me that I delve too much into the technical stuff and lose sight of what I'm trying to accomplish. I'm building a game, and anything that doesn't progress in that should be pushed aside. For the next few days, I'll be concentrating on building the #Derelict UI in #Playdate.

Time to start placing items in the room for the player to interact with in #Derelict for #Playdate. May add an outline shader in #Godot later to make items more visible against the background. Currently, we use Atkinson, but we can also test with others later to see which is better for the scene.

A powerful addon, but it was a bit confusing to me because I didn't understand how it is used. So this thread is what I gathered by studying the examples. Let's say we create a StandardMaterial3D. Attach the addon inherited_resource.gd script to that material. 🧵
Wish Godot resources could be INHERITED like scenes can? I hacked together an addon that lets you do exactly that. Just add inherited_resource.gd to any resource, point it at a base resource of same type, and you're set! Grab it here: codeberg.org/MajorMcDoom/...

But I have been using inherited resources for our dithering system? Dither class extends Resource, just use class_name to name it Dither. Then Atkinson, Burke's and the rest of the classes extend Dither. It works though?

Better #Derelict launcher card for #Playdate, a full and slower rotation, completely assembled, generated, and dithered in #Godot. The title was a 2D sprite in a CanvasLayer overlaying the 3D scene. It was already B&W, and the ditherer correctly left it alone. Just happy everything worked! 😁

I just added a developer log of how we built the first room in #Derelict. Create the models in #KenneyShape, then the mesh instances for those models in #Godot. Create variations of upper, lower, and wall layers, then combine them into rooms. 👍

I changed my mind to raise the ceiling higher in #Derelict for #Playdate; ceiling height is variable in many areas of the Archon space station. Tomorrow, I will start implementing player movement between rooms and adding interactable items in those rooms.

I still need to work out the transparency setup in #Godot for the #GDScript dithering system that I've implemented for #Derelict to detect. Once this is done, I will release it as FOSS. The system is based on the following site, so the results should be similar.

Made mistakes making room parts in #Derelict for the #Playdate; walls are too low to add a rightly-sized doorway. I added trim and raised the ceiling. But I also misaligned the size of the wall with the door gutter on the floor. This will require more time to redo and fix. DOH! 😩

Created our itch.io official game page and dev log for #Derelict below. Our task for today is to build the 3D parts to start constructing rooms and corridors in the Waste Disposal deck of the Archon space station. So no photos or demos until this is done.

I am quite happy with Atkinson and Burkes dithering. They look great, and little to no flickering on the #Playdate console. It just looks terrible here. You can check out the 1.2 demo below to see what it really looks like on the device.

Even #Atkinson dithering looks much better with #Derelict on #Playdate after we replaced #Synty assets with our own. Our assets were designed to be more suitable for 1-bit dithering.
