Advocating for proven solutions to end homelessness, dignity for all, and lasting change.

ED @ United to End Homelessness, Orange County United Way
This will have huge impacts for Public Housing Authorities nationwide.

Things like:
- waitlists for regular HCV's increasing due to utilization of turnover vouchers to keep EHV's housed
- delay or prevention of building permanent supportive housing units in the pipeline
- potential homelessness

What Dr. Kushel said 👇🏻 If there isn’t enough housing, where do we expect people to go? No state has an adequate supply of affordable housing. And my home state of NV rounding out the bottom with just 17 units per 100 extremely low-income households.
The US has only 35 units of housing affordable & available per 100 extremely low-income households. CA has 24. This is why we have the homelessness crisis we do.
The @nlihc.bsky.social #TheGap2025 report out today.

The GAP
The U.S. has a shortage of more than 7.1 million rental homes affordable and available to extremely low-income renter households. Find out more. #TheGap25

What the hell IS even going on at HUD? I can’t answer that, but I did try to sort thru some budget shenanigans. If you need a quick-ish primer on what’s up (at least for now) for FY25 & FY26, @shelterforce.bsky.social is here for you. shelterforce.org/2025/03/13/w...
What's Going On With the HUD Budget?
As a federal government shutdown looms, advocates warn of cuts to affordable housing programs in the remaining months of FY 2025—and deeper threats in 2026.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex condemned ICE’s detainment of Mahmoud Khalil, calling it a “tyrannical” move.

“If the federal government can disappear a legal US permanent resident without reason or warrant, then they can disappear US citizens too."

Large majority of homeless people in California are not illicit drug users, study finds
Even though a majority of people on the streets do not use illegal drugs, they are both a factor leading to homelessness and an effect of it, the study found. Methamphetamine is the drug of choice.

HUD staffers reporting “pauses” on grant funding. These funds help #unhoused people , cities rebuild communities, and support increasing housing supply. All pieces needed for strong communities.

This is the exact OPPOSITE of what gov’t should be doing.

Homelessness at an all-time high. Millions struggling to pay rent. 80k displaced by LA fires.

And rather than help, DOGE/HUD leadership is attacking Fair Housing & creating an environment so chaotic “it’s impossible to plan in”
HUD is bracing as DOGE seeks to cut waste, fraud. Union leaders have a suggestion
The Trump administration is reviewing contracts across the federal housing agency. Some employees worry about potentially "devastating" cuts, though union leaders also hope some good may come of it.
