Data Scientist at Mcilwain. I try to sneak statistics into engineers lives.
It is probably engagement bait, but it also highlights how little they know or are able to think.

Something says someone is a clown like “it’s all over for ___” when talking about a new AI release.

Most of that is engagement bait, so I don’t respond to the actual posts on other sites.

When someone says AI turns them into a 10X engineer, does that mean they can do the work of 10 engineers?

Academia runs on three fuels: caffeine, impostor syndrome, and poorly documented code from 2017

However, it also helps my imposter syndrome, so it’s worth it

Going on LinkedIn tests my patience so often. Constantly see dumb posts, but I will not give them engagement. It’s what they want

Work is so easy that I started writing a blog post about splines just to mentally stimulate myself

I am the only one that codes at work so sometimes I like to create a PR so it feels like I am working with someone else

Using dots in variable names should be illegal. Double illegal in OOP

There is a place for pretty visualisations, but that’s not for most end users who will just look at the table for reporting purposes

Can’t believe I became that guy, but I’ve started asking “does that provide business value?” When people ask me to make trivial changes to a visualisation. People don’t care about the font of a table, they just care it’s accurate and understandable

Pandas was the primary reason I disliked python so much. My lord it was such a pest to use for anything that was somewhat complicated
August 21, 2025 at 12:02 PM
I also underestimated how much code I wrote for that project. I should of just made it a package
August 21, 2025 at 12:00 PM
I’m making my code public since my paper is getting published and it’s taking so much self control to not refactor the pandas code to polars

Using AI for most tasks feels like using low code solutions. It may be quicker for simple stuff, but eventually any decent customisation is going to be a headache.

I cringe whenever I see guides on pandas. It’s 2025, move on

Keeping up with Python changes with each update is something they should just email me.

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

50% of AI is being confused at a new term, researching it only to discover it’s a term you already knew under a different name
