Whelp, today sucked. Started with Gus’ wound site swollen and oozing. Had to go in for immediate amputation. Thankfully the vet was able to do it.
I take him there. They ask the standard questions including “Did he eat after midnight” to which I answered no…because I’m sleep addled and wasn’t

#DogsOfBluesky Verdict is in; Gus has to have a partial amputation on Wednesday. The last thing I wanted but the vet today said that the tip was already dying. I am trying to reconcile all this. I know it is an accident, I know I tried my best. Always will for my boys. Good night.

Rough night and morning with Gus. He fought his meds for over 2hrs. Scraped his tail. AGAIN. No blood, just scrape, but still, not good. The scrape from last night recovered pretty good so I'm hoping this one will too.
God help me.

Gus’ tail continues to improve. He is listening to my calm commands and leave it for the mist part. Still can’t leave him for periods of time but I hope that’ll end soon.

They gave me a new ecollar which is STILL too short. They think I should cage him. That would make him the opposite of calm and unless it was SO small that he couldn’t turn around, he’d hurt him more.
They mentioned partial amputation. All bc I closed a door. Fml

Well, verdict for Gus as follows: no infection, vitals are fine, tail can no longer be bandaged. That super sucks because he can, of course, totally reach his tail, even with the ecollar. They charged me $42 for an ecollar that they didn't give me.

Gus’ vitals are fine but his bandage is leaking a clear fluid. Still pretty agitated. There is a VERY loud bird in the building. Or maybe it is the Guinea Pig that was waiting. Questioning my ability to discern animal noises. Hope you guys are having a better Friday.

I'm going to take Gus to another vet for a second opinion. He's been keeping his tail tucked and this morning, the top of the bandage is moist. Doesn't look red, and it could be he accidentally dunked it in a water bowl. He's sleeping right now.

I promise, last Gus post of the day. He’s tuckered out. Not responding to stimulus as normal so I keep checking to see if he is breathing. He is. I am just not used to him being so still. He is sleeping with me now. Keep a good thought for him if you would. Signing off.

Gus is finally sleeping on my lap. I don’t know how the next few weeks is going to go. I hate thinking that he’s in pain. Esp since there is nothing but time to heal it. Sorry. Just not having a good day.

It's not good. Gus managed to reinjure his tail. He got the bandage off and went after his tail. He was supposed to get his sutures out today. It was so bad when I got to the vet that they could only see one. They redressed the wound and gave it another two weeks. Got him home, FINALY got him

Gus gets his sutures out today. He’s very unhappy, trying yet again to get the bandage off. I am having to pet him continuously to keep him calm.

Pupdate: Gus’ bandage broke in half. It was like wrestling a damned bear to put new gauze and tape on it. The trazadone doesn’t work THAT fast. And Gus wanted to lick the tail. On a good note, I did see white fur on the tip!!! I’m going to see if I can get him in to a vet to check it out.
