I hated my old job so much, but I think about my customers constantly. Almost all of them were absolutely horrible to me, but I still feel bad that I can't help them. God knows they're being treated like shit now.

Tapping the sign AGAIN. Asking people repeatedly for alt text just adds MORE CLUTTER for visually-impaired users to wade through, and does NOTHING to help them access the fucking content. Do it yourself rather than being a fucking cop.
Multiple visually-impaired people i know have said, repeatedly, that the best intervention for them in cases of missing alt text isn't to scold people; it's to simply ADD A USEFUL IMAGE DESCRIPTION IN A REPLY.
If you want to actually help visually-impaired people, just HELP, don't be an asshole.

I loved Phil's presentation, as someone trying to get over the paranoia. I don't think I'll ever feel okay again, but I hope that more people understand that it's extremely common, not dangerous, not a sign of filth or poverty, and--if caught early enough--easier to get rid of than roaches.
