Woke since 1946. Retired and now take care of my sister’s 7 rescued horses. I’m getting old and I don’t respond to personal messages. Remembering the 1950s and 60s, women and minorities were respected a lot less than they are now. I don’t want to go back.
When Calypso got this blanket she ran from the other horses then admired it greatly. When she was a baby I was very careful and asked permission to touch a new blanket or she’d put up a fight.

A long time ago I saw a fat police sergeant disrespect a female firefighter. “What good are you! I wouldn’t want you as my backup.”
She winked at me, grabbed the leg of the chair he was sitting in and lifted him up over her head until he shut up.

Hayla told me I was away too long, over a week. She needed more and more attention.

Willow was wild when rescued along with many others. It was a race against time. I had to get them to accept me quickly so they could get proper treatment. Willow was the last holdout. After a week of me being kind to the other horses she ran to me pushing other horses away so she could get a kiss.

I met this pilot when he was a test pilot in Canada. His story is remarkable.

When I stumble across some of my thousands of photos I see wonderful memories. Bramble was an extreme rescue from a kill pen. She was. Kiger Mustang, a type of wild horse. Immediately she took over the herd to teach them many things. Bramble used to ring a bell so I’d come and say goodnight. ❤️

Halloween 1957. I was a British Royal Navy fighter pilot with mustache and dueling scar. It was like a paramilitary operation. Anything less than 2 bags full of candy was shameful.

Bruiser wants the new cats gone. Years ago he chased off all the cats he was rescued with. I let him in to see them but he just menaced them. He stopped eating and camped outside their window.
Today he was around the front of the house. I offered him some different food and he was insulted!

Sister is the only horse who stops eating hay to come back to touch my hand with her nose.

The other horses do not approve of Hayla playing in the water.

Calypso thinks I have grass in my pockets for her and she’s right. The gate was mangled by a powerful mare, Willow. She got excited and it bent like a wet noodle.

Willow has been like a mother to Bubby. She kept him out of trouble when he was young hoodlum. I wonder what she was communicating. He was focused.

Bruiser the feral cat can’t be touched. I have been patiently and slowly gaining his trust. Today I invited him to sit beside me on a bench. He hopped up and sat with me for a moment.

He was the best grandpa for me. He taught me the importance of empathy and emotional intelligence.
After long military service he relocated to Canada. After a very rough sea voyage he felt the need for a job on land.

When I arrive at my sister’s house I feed the indoor cats then Bruiser the outdoor cat. The horses are waiting so I hurry to feed them. When they’re fed I see the cats watching for my required return to entertain them. Bruiser waits outside for me to keep him company.

For more than 10 years Bruiser the feral cat has thrived outside. He can’t be touched. Our relationship formed around trust. I never violate his space. Bruiser was rescued and released with 4 other cats. He made them leave. I’m required to sit on a bench and keep him company twice a day.
