HEDY LAMARR - born 111yrs ago today - escaped her Nazi husband by disguising herself as her own maid, became a top Hollywood star, then co-developed a radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes - the principles of which are incorporated into today’s Bluetooth & GPS technology.

Hi, it’s me, an author and librarian-in-progress, here to tell you, yes, YOU, that every form of reading is valid. Ebooks, audiobooks, physical books, graphic novels, romance, old pulp books, the back of the cereal box, whatever. If it gets narrative to your brain, that’s good.

Salma has quite eloquently described a lot feelings I've had in regards to WIT initiatives I didn't have words for. I worked so hard with my university's WIT Society, and have felt increasingly lost the more those spaces no longer feel... right for me.
A good read for everyone in tech
I have been back and forth over the span of 5 years about whether to publish this article.

All opinions and experiences in this post are my own, or from people I personally know, backed up with recent reports and statistics.

if i can be y’all’s dad for a second:

one of the most important things I’ve learned is that acquiring a skill is literally uncomfortable

that awful moment where you feel confused and stupid and embarrassed? it means you’re about to learn something. and it’s *mandatory* if you want to get better

I am surrounded by people who are outsourcing their own thinking to ChatGPT and they are quickly and obviously becoming dependent on it for even the most banal tasks. Once again, the "figuring it out" is the important part. Yes, you can use a crane to lift weights but you will not get stronger

no, i don’t want a summary

i want to read the words from your bulging frontal lobe you typed carefully with your weary hands

i want to know your context, what’s inside of you, illuminated further by your considered choice of adjectives

i will never want a summary

for you cannot be summarised
