I play a Grocery store manager by day, but in my free time I’m an avid board game player. I’m hoping to head gracefully into my 60s, and stave off Alzheimer’s, by playing brain burning Euros. I also love music, movies, and video games. Gen X FTW!
The best part of Pax being over is the fact that they moved it back to December, and I can finally return home.
Dearest Pax unplugged, never in November again please!

@boardgamehottakes.bsky.social What astrological sign teaches games best and why?

It’s not often that I can convince my wife to table a game with me. She claims that because I play so many games that I have an unfair advantage.
Well today’s game was Llama Land by Phillip Walker Harding. Neither of us had ever played it. We tied and she won the tiebreaker. Never so happy to lose!

I may not win 80% of the games I play, but when I do win it’s 100% awesome!

Amazon selling used boardgames disappoints as my friend orders a used copy of the Cascadia expansion. Amazon shipped this used or returned boardgame. It contained the punched punchboards, a bag of dirt and raisins. Buyer beware? Raisins are good for you right?

@thefrozengamer.bsky.social I have had terrible times with trying to sell my games. I have heard of math trades, and tried to understand, but I can’t grok the process. Could you suggest my explain how I can get started and how it works?

@boardgamehottakes.bsky.social My wife would never listen to a boardgame podcast.
While making supper my wife came in when Danielle was talking about tuning out when the rules teach was too much for her. My wife sat down, listened to the rest of the podcast, and screamed, See! I’m not the only one!

@boardgamehottakes.bsky.social Finally got a 3 player game of Unconscious Mind to the table. I struggled with point scoring mechanics and ended up in last place, even being lapped by my two best friends who are much better game players than me. Do you ever get discouraged when you get beat so badly?

Not sure if you ever covered this.
Expansions for expansion sake. Do they really make a game better? Do they actually ruin some games?
Keep a game pure? No expansions no problems?
I think modules in boardgames is the way to go. Stop with the needless expansions!

@boardgamehottakes.bsky.social At Pax East yesterday. It was good to see the board game section was crowded with people buying and playing boardgames. People were hungry for new games despite inflated retail prices. I see this as a positive that the market will bear our current political climate.

At Pax East yesterday. It was good to see the board game section, for a Thursday, was crowded with people buying and playing new boardgames. People were hungry for new games despite the highly inflated retail prices. I see this as a positive that the market will bear our current political climate.

Can we trust crowdfunding anymore?

Lost out to the tune of $400 in Final Frontier games.

#Deathknell for Boardgames?

I am not too much into cheese, but love Fromage. Is this game a gateway to my future cheese addiction?

Finally got Revive to the table. Man, that game did not disappoint. I think that Revive actually immersed me more than any recent game. I was totally thinking like the machine I built. I’m very eager to try the campaign. Have you guys tried it? Is it worth the time?

@boardgamehottakes.bsky.social Has anyone played John Company?
I’m scheduled to play it soon and wonder what type of game it is, and how it plays with 4.

@boardgamehottakes.bsky.social Gave Garphill Games Shipwrights of the North Sea Redux a spin as a 3 player Solo game experience. I must say the game is much improved, and hits the mark as an introduction to the North Sea Saga.

If you play the North Sea campaign, it has updated Runestones as well.

@boardgamehottakes.bsky.social I played a prototype of Stephen Bakers new game Where Heroes Dare, a successor to Hero Quest, Dare drops you right into the best part of a dungeon as you play out a scene in a 40 scene story where you are smashing props, killing monsters, and solving puzzles. Great fun

@boardgamehottakes.bsky.social Have you guys tried Sea Salt and Paper? This game invaded my life a month ago and I haven’t stopped playing it.
It’s on BGA, and I suggest it at 3 or 4. It’s so quick, and for a small card game it packs a surprising amount of strategy along with a truly fun card game.

@boardgamehottakes.bsky.social Have any of your game groups been involved in, or are currently in, any campaign games together? Did you finish the campaign? My regular group wants to start Oathsworn once a month. I want to play, but I don’t want to waste time playing a campaign we will never finish.

@connievdc.bsky.social I saw your interview with Jamie a while back. Congratulations on Apiary. Just wanted to say that Apiary is fantastic. My family, friends, and game groups have enjoyed multiple plays. Thank you!
