The Bayeux Tapestry is located at the Bayeux Museum in Normandy.

The tapestry will be displayed at The British Museum September 2026 to July 2027.
Pieces of the Bayeux Tapestry stolen by a Nazi scientist during the occupation of France were recently returned. The small fragments were presented to the mayor of Bayeux on January 15.

The Bayeux Tapestry is cool as hell. A 230 foot-long textile account of the Norman Conquest from the 11th C., with lots of fun details, including 626 people, 190 horses, 35 dogs, 32 ships, & 93 penises.

The Bayeux Tapestry will be returning to England for the first time in nearly a millennia. The British Museum will display the tapestry from September 2026 to July 2027 while the Bayeux Museum is undergoing renovations.

“Here a certain clerk and Aelfgyva”

Who Aelfgyva and the cleric perhaps caressing or striking her face were is not known to us. Their stories have been lost to the sands of time but this affecting scene beneath an ornate arch endures.

The #BayeuxTapestry will be heading off for some restoration work from Sept 1st 2025 for 2 years so it you want to see this amazing 1000 year old piece you need to visit before the end of next August or wait until Oct 2027.

Historians believe Odo commissioned the Bayeux Tapestry and displayed it in his cathedral.
