I’m disappointed that #Figma keeps coming out with new stand-alone products but hasn’t made working with lots of open tabs easier (tab groups, visual grid of open tabs).

I can’t side-scroll to my open tabs that aren’t visible on the right, and there’s no overflow menu to access them. #Config2025

Whenever someone messages me with "brt!" I think they're yelling my name at me.

I recently moved to “Frederick Douglass Blvd” and am surprised how many systems aren’t able to handle that length of a street address (with a 4-character street number).

I like to ask people around 30 and younger if they’ve heard of the Smashing Pumpkins. Most of the time they say no.

Today I talked to a 25-year-old who had an SP tattoo on his arm (the nymph inside the star from Mellon Collie & Infinite Sadness cover)! And he said his DAD was REALLY into them. 😆

I tried out the Vision Pro and was extremely impressed. But I don’t like wearing even the lightest goggles. Apple should put the technology into a TV with eye/hand gesture tracking.

Why is the media saying Trump had a “runaway victory” in Iowa? I thought he’d get closer to 80%. Nearly half the votes are not for him, which seems significant.

Ha, I have the opposite take. Why do people need salted butter when you can salt things yourself?

I think I need help with non-stick cookware (I don’t normally use it). Is there any point to adding oil? It just sloshes around instead of coating a surface for food to cook on?

Just went to the desktop version of @bsky.app and got scared I accidentally logged into Twitter/X.

I wish this was a New York Times op-ed by the Editorial Board, not a post on a mostly-tech blog (no offense @gruber.foo).

Just arrived in SF/Oakland and am already overhearing someone’s plans to steal “titties” from a store in the Castro tonight, asking friend to be his getaway driver.

Damn, just learned I’m old enough to be protected by law from age discrimination. 👴

Sinéad O’Connor sang on three songs for Massive Attack but is not credited on Spotify/Apple Music. Not even in the “Song Credits” section (for “What Your Soul Sings,” “Special Cases,” and “A Prayer for England” on their 100th Window album). Are their collaborators just considered part of the band?

I thoroughly enjoyed “Barbie” but I keep thinking they made the equivalent of the Nicholas Cage / Tim Burton “Superman” movie that never got finished. Very strange, in a good way, and not at all the vibes of the source material.

Do apps/websites that have my date of birth really need to calculate my age and display it back to me?

Half a year in, it still stings to see “40” next to my name.

Devil’s advocate: what if it was X but the logo looked like a bird’s footprint?

Can’t believe Bluesky copied dumb UI from Twitter where tapping the comment count under a post just takes you to a reply form instead of showing you those ## comments.

So far not buying argument that Bluesky’s going to beat Mastodon because of UX (even its onboarding isn’t significantly better?).

The businesses that still have “masks required” signs on their doors are run by the same type of people who leave the stickers on their new appliances/electronics.

This story about “jargon” in the workplace has been making the rounds but most of these are idioms, which are a wonderful part of human language?

I used to work with an older person who constantly said ones I hadn’t heard of and I loved learning about them!
The phrases you should banish from your work vocabulary
Overuse of workplace jargon isn't just annoying—it's also a barrier to inclusion.

Finally gave Foundation a try after we finished Silo and heard it was comparably good, and now I am hooked. Something about the trailers didn’t click for me even though it looked beautiful.

And it looks like we’re watching it just in time for season 2, which is out this Friday.

If generative AI is based on things humans have already generated, I don’t understand what people expect to happen over time when humans are generating fewer new things.

What if generative AI was created in the 1950s? We’d be stuck with that kind of mindset impregnated in everything created by it.

Since AI is trending I’m tempted to resurrect “bartificial” as my username, even though I kind of don’t like AI and sort of used the name ironically, as a sensitive/deeply empathetic young person. (Apparently bartificial.com is one of the domains I already own…)

I was looking at potential domains for this earlier and was disappointed that a few were taken. And then I logged into my registrar’s account and realized a few were taken because… I already own them.
