The oiltanker "Qendil" has run aground near Bozcaada Island, Turkey. MT Qendil was on her way to a Turkish shipyard after being struck by Ukrainian drones 2 weeks ago in the Mediterranean Sea.

On the night of January 2, the 154 meter long ro-ro vessel Glyvursnes experienced a fire in the Engine room while berthed at Hirshals, Denmark. One crew member perished in the fire while another was badly injured from burns.

Snowfall in Juneau, Alaska over the past week has smashed records for the city, bringing avalanche risks and sunken vessels. The Juneau Port Director said so far 8 vessels have sunk and 15 total have needed assistance due to heavy snowfall. (📷 quinton_woolmanmorgan)

On 27 June 2022, a crane was loading a 25 tonnes pressurized chemical storage container, containing chlorine, onto the container ship Forest 6 at the port of Aqaba, Jordan. They used rope slings rated for 8,5 tonnes instead of +25t. This accident caused 13 deaths and 265 injuries at the port.

A long climb... I count 25 steps to the platform, so that is a minimum of 7m75 / max 8m75. (31cm - 35cm between steps). Together with the height above water AND the thickness of the steps, I would think this ladder is non-compliant.

Let's dive into maritime zones. Back in the day, territorial waters were just 3 nautical miles out, based on the "cannon shot" rule: as far as you could fire from shore. Made sense in the 1700s, right?

Unless it's territorial waters, spying is allowed in the EEZ of another nation as per UNCLOS. military surveillance and intelligence collection fall under freedom of navigation and “other internationally lawful uses of the sea.”

It seems MT Bella 1 (chased by US Coast Guard) has officially been registered in the Russian Registry and renamed MARINERA. Article 92 UNCLOS does allow reflagging and renaming during a voyage IF there is new ownership or new registry, which seems to be the case.

The PS Montreux is a paddle steamer operating on Lake Geneva in Switzerland. It's part of the famous Belle Époque fleet run by the Compagnie Générale de Navigation sur le lac Léman (CGN). She was built in 1904 and is one of the oldest remaining paddle steamers in the world.
