Finally unfollowed the last two accounts on Twitter (local Police and City Council) and deactivated my own account. No point being there any more, and the shit they're pulling with #Grok is appalling!

“Which universities have been selected?”

“Both of them.”

Finally managed to update my Bluesky handle to my own domain name. May take a while to roll out.

That's nice, but it's a shame the West of England's free birthday bus pass offer specifically excluded travel on this service, even when Bristol P&R buses were included.

It's gotten a lot better recently. You should see the amount of sushi and noodles our academic team get through! We're also about to move to a new and very well-equipped lab next to Bristol Temple Meads... alongside the cryptography and smart internet labs. 😉

The UK has a very active Cyber Security academic community. Come and work for one of the universities here (preferable ours) and teach what you know while researching whatever takes your interest.

To get this process started would require someone in Parliament to address the House and get the ball rolling.

This means every UK institution moving to #ActivityPub platforms (backed by the #W3C) such as #Mastodon, #PixelFed, and #PeerTube. Having accounts here on BlueSky should be a secondary option, but the servers should be self-hosted AT instances so that we can moderate content.

After yesterday's interference in the UK's political landscape by Elon M*usk, the UK should take action to distance itself from his platform. We should ask the #GDS and #JISC to begin work on shifting all UK government, education, and essential services to #OpenSource #SocialMedia platforms.

I'm on a slightly smaller instance that has a lot of UK users: mstdn.social/tags/UKSnow....

I think it only aggregates from this particular instance, and any accounts that are followed by users of this instance. Given that it's the biggest Mastodon server, it may be a good starting point. UK users will start posting UKSnow updates once they know it's being indexed by you.
January 6, 2025 at 1:59 PM
That's good to hear. Do you have any plans to add Mastodon instances as a source for UKSnow? They make hashtags available via RSS reeds: mastodon.social/tags/UKSnow....

Next year, 2025, is the only square year most of us will see in our lifetimes (45 x 45). The last was 1936 (44 x 44), the next is 2116 (46 x 46).

Not helped by Windows still hiding known file extensions by default. Filename.jpg.exe 🤦‍♂️

It’s one of the first things I turn off in File Explorer.

Could also connect Avon Valley Line to GWR Mainline near Newton St Loe and run trains into Bath Spa railway station.
November 20, 2024 at 5:30 PM
Avon Valley Line gets funding boost for using their rails. They can operate the line and run steam trains at weekends (bringing in more tourists). Villages of Saltford, Bitton, Oldland Common, and Warmley get better transport options to both Bath and Bristol. Alternate route for those in N Bristol.
November 20, 2024 at 5:16 PM
Example: From Bath city centre, catch P&R bus to Newbridge, which continues over the river to a new stop by the Roots allotments. Here, build a new railway station and connect it to the Avon Valley Line. Ride this towards a new Mangotsfield P&R station near A4174. From there, bus into Bristol.
November 20, 2024 at 5:14 PM
The problem is the Brunel-era two-track railway into Bristol and antiquated signalling, which act as a bottleneck preventing more services from running between Bristol & Bath.

We need to get creative with solutions that use alternative routes.

I've got my #X / #Twitter account down from 65 follows to 19 now. You really have to hunt around for those alternative feeds.

I've found a few BBC accounts & journalists making new homes here.

Even TV finance guru Martin Lewis just joined #BlueSky and he may bring a few followers with him.
Hello folks. Just joined. Got to learn how it works. Will do a post on my twitter now so you can see this is the real me and not some scammer!
