@blindboyboatclub.bsky.social Last ocarina pause you mentioned how bad Google has gotten as a search engine, I thought you might find this interesting as it goes into the particular corporate politics and decisions that led to this: www.wheresyoured.at/the-men-who-...

What a fun new place for #YouTube to shove shorts! Even if you LIKE them, who the absolute fuck watches shorts on desktop? Get them out of my face.

Haven't read this one yet but whenever I come across a book like this I check if it's on archive.org and it often is! archive.org/details/what... I'll dig into this later.

For those interested in behind the scenes #YouTube stuff, here you can see the bump (around day 20) that came from changing to a more legible thumbnail. CDs beat cassettes and clearly "you will own nothing" is a more popular slogan than McLuhan's old mantra. Video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vjso...

One month ago, I shared my kofi page for the first time and I'm incredibly touched by all the donations that have come in: ko-fi.com/awesomepedia... At the moment I can't say that I'm making a living off my creative work but reaching that stage feels much more possible now!

New video is doing fairly well, please give it a shot if you haven't! It's a documentary for which I went looking for vinyl records, CDs, cassettes & DVDs… but what I found was a bigger story about why we collect, what we keep, and what those objects say about us. youtu.be/VjsoukfdUUE #physicalmedia

We've got a new Patreon episode out, examining the iconic unique units different civilisations can field in Age of Empires II! This was a request from one of our patrons and we really enjoyed tackling some video game history for a change. You can listen to the start even if you're not a patron yet!

If you're still using #Google search for some reason, note that #DuckDuckGo now has a filter to hide AI-generated images (or at least attempt to). This is something Google could easily implement, but of course they WANT to serve you endless Gemini slop.

My new documentary premieres on Sunday! Seeking to understand why physical media is making a comeback, I dig up old vinyl records, CDs, cassette tapes and DVDs – and I end up in a much bigger story about ownership, memory & meaning. #physicalmedia

One thing about generative #AI is that it's created in me an appreciation for the soon-to-be lost art of your aunt making a shite Comic Sans poster for an upcoming event. Just looked at some graphics going "at least it can't be AI generated, look at the fucking state of it"

The only way I was able to turn off Notion's AI tool was via a lengthy email exchange back and forth with their support team.
Big tech promotes the story that since ChatGPT burst onto the scene, AI has been so popular it's rushed to meet the demand. The reality is different. A study by design scholars shows tech co's have had to push AI on its users with a variety of intrusive tactics.
