It’s been 13 years since the Arab spring, and despite the billion of dollars invested apps with the word “decentralized” (social media, file sharing, messaging, etc) the Iranian government can still shut down the internet for protestors.

Another image that sums up the protest.

“The State is justified in murdering citizens if they fail to obey law enforcement immediately” is saying every ancap and libertarian in the other website and I’m not in the least surprised.

Saw the same video but I think saying “men” shifts away responsibility from ONE MAN who built a CSAM robot in the website he bought and can at any point tell it not to undress people but he doesn’t.
Just heard an AI ethicist talk about how important it is that we say ‘MEN are using Grok to undress images of babies, children and women’ not ‘Grok is….’. Grok isn’t responsible for the action, the men enabling & using it for this repulsive purpose are. Small but important bit of linguistic accuracy

According to the video you can see she blocked her path for like one second and then backed up, and then they storm her? I’d be terrified too.

Also important to notice the car wasn’t even identified as a police car. If masked men got out of an unmarked vehicle and started to try to open your door you might have panicked also!

I’m currently playing with simple Lego robots with my kids and I am thinking of how cool it would be if I could have an AI inside a raspberry that could have access to a camera, their own servo motors and write their own code. I’m sure they’d be able to figure out how to move on their own!

Personally I’d like a little drone with local processing that can fly around and look at stuff and fetch things on their own.

It’s one of the things sci-fi got wrong (unfortunately) robots that have their own personalities, processing their own thoughts desires and loyalties, instead of a single hive mind subservient to the corporate overlords that speaks in many machines.

1) courts have ruled that anything purely created by a machine can’t be copyrighted
2) newest AI models are increasingly being written by the newer models
3) they were all created by massive copyright infringement

All AI should in the public domain, it’s not piracy, it’s our moral duty.

I've decided to write up a few things that I have been thinking about on hexagons and maps.. again:

Maduro is a terrible dictator and the Chaves regime destroyed Venezuela, but as a South American, I can tell you I can't think of a better propaganda for them than an American president saying they will go to war and take their oil. It's as if their main boogeyman made a speech confirming it exists.

Sometimes I go to the other site because there’s i get a lot more replies. But then in a few minutes I am reminded why I left it.

What I love about the drake equation is that it includes all main branches of knowledge in a single fundamental question. It’s basically:

Physics x chemistry x biology x anthropology x history x tech = are we alone?

So Netflix did become HBO faster than HBO could become them in the end.

Re-read The Hobbit for the first time since high school and I’m like WTF?

So (SPOILER) they just walk for 90% of the book, with no provisions, decent weapons or even a plan and then in the end a random guy just shoots the dragon and they weren’t even there?!

Proposal 32 has been put forth, to donate 13.7 ETH (over $45k) to Build Guidl. It will be ready to be executed Friday, November 14, when it will be open to be executed by anyone.
In anticipation of the big choice we’ve now crossed $25,000 in donations! 🔥

Can’t wait to see which of the two EF-approved initiatives @avsa.eth.xyz picks, ProtocolGuild or BuidlGuidl🔨

Either choice, the ecosystem wins. 🦄

Who would win in a fight: one Tesla Optimus versus one hundred cheap drones. Both are allowed to use any weapon they can carry.

This isn’t a hypothetical, it’s going to be a real scenario someday and it’s another reason anthropomorphic robots is a dumb idea.

Adobe: that's not what it means to "update" an app on my computer.

I don’t understand how Apple giving $1B per year to google for renting is better than them buying a few billion of anthropic and owning the models outright.

Maybe we should be happy that the quota doesn’t count “deported OR dead”, as it would create even worse incentives

That’s what happens when the boss sets a random quota.
