Mom of two boys; one autistic, one nonautistic, special ed teacher working primarily with autistic students, and doctoral candidate focusing on autistic authenticity. As a nonautistic, I actively seek knowledge about autism from the autistic community.
I’m looking for some feedback from autistic people. I am working on my dissertation which intends to explore how recommendations from autistic people are shaping school supports.

I am seeking feedback from autistics on questions I would ask of special education teachers. Here is what I have so far

Last school year I asked my supervisor if I could design a program for autistic students who did not require intensive academic support. These are students whose challenges are often minimized and whose unique strengths are frequently unseen. Programs for this population are not common.

RFK’s statement on autism is disgusting and dangerous. I will be sharing responses from the autistic community about this. Autistic people are the experts in autism. They are who we should be listening to.

My son is not a tragedy.

My son is not diseased.

Autistic people do not need research to focus on out how to prevent more of them from existing.

Hope that clarifies things.

Autistic advice requested please. I work with autistic HS students and a few of them use tech/watching videos throughout the day, I believe, as a self-regulating tool. Many of them can still mange work and are doing fine with their grades.

Looking for more podcasts by autistic people. Especially interested in autistic researchers, teachers, and other clinicians. Taking all recommendations! Thanks.

Reading this now. Very well written and I highly recommend. In spite of - no because of - how difficult it is to absorb.

Yes. This is important to remember.
It is my sincere hope that all media including corporate and independent media REMEMBER: Social Security is NOT just for Seniors. There are ALMOST 25% of us that are people w/disabilities and people who have it via survivors benefits. Please don't forget about US when you talk about this program. 🙏💜

Things not to say when someone tells you they’re autistic:

- “Everyone’s a bit autistic”
- “Officially diagnosed or self-diagnosed?”
- “But you seem so normal”
- “You must be just like [name of another autistic person] then”
- “Seems to be a trend these days”
- “You don’t look #autistic

Greetings! Looking for guidance from autistic people. I teach high school and in January student access to YouTube will be blocked. While I generally support that, I do have some autistic students who use it to stay focused and/or self-regulate.

My prospectus for my dissertation was recently approved! In general my question is, "How are school interventions aligned with autistic priorities?" I'm learning so much! #autismresearch #autisticauthenticity #autisticmasking
