Throwback Friday! How surreal is this picture? I think Weegee stopped to snap this photo on his way to a crime scene. (Aunt Mary Madigan and her son Dickie, hanging out on Cape Cod, c. 1940)

The '70s were a long, strange trip, and I (and my alter ego, author Evie Kelley) was there! 😃

The 1970s gave rise to many wild fads. Streaking, palazzo pants, Pet Rocks, avocado green appliances, & shag carpeting your mom’s still trying to vacuum popcorn out of 50 years later.

Let’s not forget funky footwear. Platform shoes, of course, but the oddest shoes of the decade were Earth Shoes.

#TimeTravelAuthors Day 3

I wrote Beryl Blue, Time Cop as a standalone, but when I got to the end, uh-oh, I'd written myself into a cliffhanger. Three books and a sequel short story later, I guess I've got a series. 😆

Who knew this single picture could inspire a 3 book series & a sequel short story?

Well, me!

Meet Beryl Blue, modern day librarian whisked to 1943. Her mission is to save a WWII soldier from a time traveling assassin - not fall in love.

This is my high school senior portrait from 50 years ago, an era of purple, polyester, and platform shoes.

I didn't smile. Probably because I had a zit the size of Montana in the middle of my forehead and a crick in my neck from gazing pensively over my shoulder as the photo guy insisted I pose.

There's a couple fistfights, a barroom brawl, and a make out scene or two in Beryl Blue, Time Cop, but nothing needing a serious content warning, unless you count how lethally charming Sully can be.

I'd love to know the journey my Vistaprint orders go thru for the boxes to arrive looking like Hans Brinker took a hammer to them after he used them to skate thru a pool of sludge.

Anyhoo, my new business cards arrived safe & sound despite the packaging drama. What do you think?

Bullshit. Don’t let Stephen Miller save face like this.

HE slandered Alex Pretti.
HE told the whole administration to label Pretti a terrorist.
HIS protocols are the ones that led to the execution of an American citizen.

He can’t walk it back. He needs to go.

White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller sheepishly admitted Tuesday that border agents “may not have been following” proper protocol when they shot and killed ICU nurse Alex Pr…

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

There's only scrapes & bruises in the Beryl Blue, Time Cop universe, except for a big medical crisis in book 3 Beryl would kill me if I spoil. However, I'm noodling with a book 4 that would drop her smack in the middle of a huge medical event in 1918-1919. Stay tuned!

That's me on the right. Don't I look far-out and fabulous?
🙂 70s Monday! My sister & I in 1976, dolled up in our chic winter coats weighed down with 20 pounds of faux fur trim, watching a reenactment of Revolutionary War-era troops bringing cannons captured at Ft. Ticonderoga from NY to Boston, in my Worcester, MA, hometown.

We look cute - and cold!

By creating the unbreakable you-can't-change-the-past rule in Beryl Blue's world, I wrote myself into a corner. I had to figure out the consequences of Beryl's desperate efforts to change WWII soldier Sully's grim destiny - and a clever way she could get around them.

1 of many fave moments:
If I went home, if he died, the future would be toast. Scary, but abstract, like thinking there’s a zombie in a dark room. You don’t know until you turn on the light whether to pee your pants. Sully was anything but abstract. If I went home he'd die.

I found N. N. Light’s book refreshingly honest in its character development while still laying out those adult themes of desire, loss of control and jealousy.
