I explain how the Australian political system works to anyone who will listen. https://www.youtube.com/@AuspolExplained

Hey quick yes/no question: do you think, or have you been told before, that Federation in 1901 meant independence for Australia?

50 years ago the Whitlam government was dismissed by the Governor-General, John Kerr. It's not well understood so I asked constitutional expert Anne Twomey about it to unpack what happened, why, how, and also why it wasn't as unprecedented or unexpected as people think it was. youtu.be/BKGCcq1j9BE

I'm giving a FREE talk at Subiaco Library about how Australia's constitutional/legal relationship to the UK has evolved over the centuries since colonisation. When did we gain independence? Come find out why that's such a complicated question at my talk: www.eventbrite.com.au/e/auspol-exp...

I talk about the AEC so much I decided to actually talk to someone from the AEC. Here's my latest episode where I ask them what the AEC does (and also what it doesn't do but people think it does) youtu.be/65UeS_NGOIk

Fun fact about the Nobel Peace Prize: nominations can be made by any member of a national assembly (like parliament/congress/secret third option here) so being nominated in itself doesn't necessarily mean much other than a politician out there likes you. www.nobelprize.org/nomination/p...

Do you ever find yourself emailing famous highly renowned professors and you have to figure out which of your videos is the best foot forward to demonstrate "hey, this is what I do. Would you like to be interviewed for the internet?"

A universal experience, I know.

I went to the Isle of Man in 2023 for my honeymoon and I've been fascinated by it ever since. I need the equivalent of me, but for Manx politics, to nerd out with me and also explain the intricate details of how being a crown dependency works and differs to Commonwealth countries.

Remember kids, protest isn't some subversive (unless you make it) act. It's a fundamental tenant of a democratic society and you should try it out at least once in your life as part of the many ways you can participate in expressing your political views. Enjoy!

If you ever wondered if I have interests outside of Australian politics - I do. The latest book I've started reading is Offshore Island Politics: The Constitutional and Political Development of the Isle of Man in the Twentieth Century. That's VERY different from Australian politics cos it's far away
