i love open source software,,, i want to use an obscure rust library but it's unmaintained, but that's ok because there's an up-to-date fork maintained by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute

(the library is github.com/metno/hdf5-r... btw)

i've been playing with tiling window managers for linux recently. i haven't really done much custom theming but i made some modifications to the "Spotlight Dark" theme for rofi by Newman Sanchez, and i really like how it looks!
an application launcher dialog on top of a pretty desktop wallpaper. the wallpaper features art of a tree in front of a small coastal village. at the top of the application launcher is a search box - the search prompt is a cat icon followed by "nya". below this are a row of five buttons representing different launcher tabs - in order, these are applications, visual studio code history, run command, window list, and calculator. the rest of the dialog contains a list of available applications, along with their application icons.

the nintendo switch online playtest has just ended. i'm really glad i stuck around until the end to see everyone else hanging out and celebrating and saying goodbye in ways that don't require words.

i wish i had played more while i could but i'm so glad i got to experience this community!

I made an impulse buy...
this is a 3U server (chassis)! I got it to upgrade my current server into this new chassis. there's a lot of interesting stuff in here so I'm going to make a wee thread!
a 3U server on a wooden table. its a long steel box with a black front panel that has 16 drive bays (6 are empty). a rail is attached to the side and there's a bag of screws taped on top

yesterday in Belfast there was a march for trans rights - the march was for IDAHOBIT, but was primarily resisting the increasing sentiment of transphobia (especially in the context of stuff like the recent supreme court ruling)

everyone was amazed at the turnout, and i got some cool pictures
a progress flag waving on a long pole, with St Anne's Cathedral and a tree in the background the crowd of protesters gathered, taking up most of the surface area of Writer's Square picture taken from the middle of the march as it proceeded down Donegall Place. the image shows the crowd of people in every visible direction. in the lower left, a placard reads "trans women are women", and right in the middle Belfast City Hall can be seen picture of the top of belfast city hall. there's a progress flag right in front of it, slightly glowing due to being in direct sunlight
